Question about Canon EOS 450D Digital Camera

Connection problem with Canon 450D to PC.

I connect my canon 450D to the PC via USB. The Adobe elements picks up the camera and the camera shows BUSY on the screen. Elements shows connecting to device ... please wait message. After about 5 seconds the Canon stops showing Busy and the screen looks like I had just switched on without the USB connected. Elements then says the Device is not connected or busy. I have tried different USB cable and Port. Restarting windows etc all to know avail. This was all working fine two days ago and nothing has changed. Help !

Will give it a try. Will be this evening before I can do it. I have tried just accessing via MY COMPUTER but the same things happens in that I can see the camera for a few seconds and then it disconnects. I will update once I have tried a REINSTALL of the cannon software. Thanks

Hi, Nope it didn't. What I did was reinstall the canon software but this did not help. However it is now working and I think this is due to a Canon firmware upgrade (to be carried out with caution)

I did also deinstall some other software just prior to this which may have had an impact but I cannot be sure (sorry).

    Cheers, Tim

Hi, This happened to my 350D once.. I ended up deleting the camera hardware from the computer and reinstalling the hardware cd and that cracked it.. Any luck??

My 450D is having this same problem. i have been fearing it might be a malfunction of the "digital terminal" (the cable "slot" on the camera itself) since the warranty ran out two months ago. did reinstalling the software help?

How to update firmware via cable?

The explaination is on the Canon firmware download page.

Basically it is done via the EOS Utillity that comes with the camera.

There, click the [Camera settings / Remote shooting] button and then the Tools symbol.

Probably the same problem as cate_cahill on Oct

Your description of the problem is confusing to me. First it seems you are saying your camera doesn't take a raw file in addition to a jpg. Then it seems you're saying when you look at the files using another reader the raw file is there. Usually you can connect your camera to a PC using the USB connection and it will show up as a removable drive, if you do not have the Cannon software on your PC. You can then drag the files into a folder on your hard drive. At some colleges they only use client PC's and applications reside only on their servers. It takes administrative permissions to attach drives or load applications. That MAY be the case where you attend. If this doesn't help you, please clarify whether the raw files can be seen on the Jessops card reader or not.

No longer able to connect 450D to computer

When you tried the other 450d, did you use your cord or the other person's cord? You could try a camera reset. Go into the menu and scroll to "reset"...follow the on-screen instructions.

I have a canon xsi / 450d and cant get thedrivers to work either

i occasionally have this problem, the usb connection becomes corrupted, this is not uncommon for various devices with XP and Vista.

to fix, download a free small program called USBDeview (should come up with Google search easily). load and it will show you all devices that have connected to your system. Find the Canon XSi product and 'uninstall selected device'.

You may need to reboot one time, and then reinstall the Canon driver from the disc. In all it's a very easy process, the hard part is figuring out how to edit the usb registry, which that free program does nicely.

Canon 450D is not being recognised by my computer (I run xp 32-bit). When I turn on the camera, windows comes up with a "install new hardware" option. I have installed the EOS utility etc. but still the...

Both the Canon XT 350D and the XTi 400D are recognized by any PC with XP windows operative system. It seems you have to check your USB port or USB cable used to connect your cameras to the PC. Sometimes, the PC does not recognize a specific device connected to an USB port. Yopu can get into the System -device manager screen, and uninstall the USB port, and run the utility to recognize changes in the device manager. This will install the USB port driver again, and if it is a software issue the reason of the problem, then it will be fixed.

Also, you can check your cameras and USB cable in a different PC so you can confirm if they both work has should be.

Problem import picts via sd cardreader (taken with eos 450d)

Some card readers struggle with high capacity (SD-HC) cards and indeed some older devices.
If you (or a friend) has a lower capacity card (less than 2GB) try that in you camera and then pc.

You can purchase a VERY cheap USB card reader (c.£10 max) and it should sort your problem - I hope!

Use in canob 450D

No. You can only use the camera in manual mode, setting the shutter speed to, say, 1/125 sec and the aperture: according to the working aperture on the flash. The flash has to be in auto mode. The physical connection between the camera and flash can be either a standard PC cord, originally supplied with the flash plus a hotshoe-to-PC-female "cube", or an SCA305a cable plus an SCA301 standard foot. Of Metz 45 series only the 45CL4 Digital together with an SCA3102 M4 module is dedicated to the Canon EOS digital series.

I've found that Windows Movie Maker (built-in to Windows XP), Adobe Elements, Adobe Premier, Sony's Vegas Video and  Pinnacle all work well with my canon camera.
