The last answer sounded like a guess. Has anyone actually encountered this problems and knows the cause. If it was power supply, how would the power/standby light be on at all?

  • ukmoss Oct 07, 2009

I checked the fuse. It is not opaque, so I can't see if it is blown. There is no discoloration on the fuse. I will have to go get one to check anyway. I left the TV unplugged all night and nothing changed. There is no info in the manual about the blinking lights and what they mean and nothing on the web I can find. Hence I am on this site. We tried hookimg up the camcorder for playback via another input but could not get the TV fired up. I am not qualified to remove the cover. I will try a new fuse. Will post info when I do it.

Thanks for the advice. I checked the fuse and replaced it anyway. No change. I will have to take it to Best Buy

Please unplug the TV and take cover plastic off by the power cord. Check and see if the main safety fuse is blown. If it is then replace with a 4A 250 slowblow fuse. Problems like this is usually the power supply. If problem is not solved, then a sevice repair is needed. You should also check your input signal. It might be a problem where it is not turning on the first diode allowing the TV picture to come on. Try another input device. If you open the cover to the set, in which I don't recommend unless you have TV repair experience, look around the power supply for problems.

Did you read the instructions from the manual? It's a safety fuse protecting the main. I'm going to take for granted that you did all of this, including batteries to the remote, and you actually hitting the power button. How much information does the blinking lights gives you. Do you think it's narrowed down to a particular item? And yes, I've seen where it was a power supply shorted problem. I need to know if your qualified to take the TV cover off, before I recommend have you do it. All I can do is have you follow the steps even though, I may all ready know the problem. Something caused it, and following the steps may help find that too.

Actually, if not a power board the problem more likely is a transistor that went out. Now I said, "diode," but, this TV maker what is usually a diode circuit, they simply made with transistors. These transistor circuits don't hold up as good as the diodes. But any how, I'll correct myself and say, "The traansistor is not turning on."

In checking the fuse you may discovered a problem with the way it is sitting in there. Allow enough power for the LEDs but, not enough to turn on.

Be sure to check the back light too, if qualified.

Most of these tv's get serviced by geek squad. Usually they replace a $350 board part/labor. The lucky ones were able to upgrade to a LG by Best Buy, due to a unsolvable problem. If you have noticed there isn't to many parts you can by for this TV. One main board, and accessories. But, there is a cable that mal-functions and goes bad, actually it burns up.

All the tv's with flashing alternating lights had the power supply board problem.

Hi,

Do you hear any sound? If not, more likely it's a Power Supply Problem on your set.

Try to unplug the Tv for few minutes. Again plug in and see if that could fix the issue. Unless you need to get it replaced or repaired.

If you wish, you can open the TV and get it repaired. Remember, it's not easy. You need to be good at electronics. You need to check all resistor's and capacitors. More likely, the faulty one would be swelled or leaked. Once confirm, you can order the board at :-

http://www.shopjimmy.com

You can also call them at their Toll Free number.

If you call a tech, the fix might cause you anyway between 200-350 bucks depending on the technician.

Let me know, if need further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Thanks for your response!!

It was not a Guess. If you wish you could consult with other Experts on this Panel. Power is getting into the TV. The blinks that you could see shows that the Power is getting into the TV. This is a common issue with most of the TV's now a days.

For every opinion, there is a reason. If you still wish, you can open and check the board. I would be glad to help you to check, if you are handy at electronics.

    Thanks.

At least the 5VDC stand by power supply is working, there will be a control signal pin from the mainboard to the power supply board to turn on the rest of the power supplies (24vdc for the back light inverter boards, 12vdc for other circuits). Any bulging caps in the power supply?
