If you have encounter this kind of trouble this is a RAM problem which is beeping. B

Beep code pattern on a PhoenixBIOS system means that there has been an issue while testing the DRAM refresh. This could be a problem with the system memory, an expansion card, or the motherboard.

Random Access Memory (RAM) is the "working memory" in a computer. Additional RAM allows a computer to work with more information at the same time which can have a dramatic effect on total system performance.

RAM is typically referred to simply as "memory" even though other types of memory may exist inside a computer.

At this time you need to check the memory. Remove the memory and turn it on identify in there is sound provided.

Memory is installed in the memory module slots located in the motherboard. These slots are easily locatable by looking for the small hinges on either side that lock the memory in place. Certain sizes of modules may need to be installed in certain slots so always check with your motherboard manufacturer before purchase or installation.

When i turned on switch dell vostro 230 it give no display and led colour is red

No Display, so does it seem like the computer booted up and is running except that the Display is black? Do you hear fans running, disk drive spinning, blinking lights or beeps?

I'm going to assume that in your case since you mentioned a red light that it is not booting up all the way. Therefore your problem is probably with the memory, the video card or some other motherboard issue.

Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery, Remove the cover that houses the memory on the bottom of the laptop then remove one of thememory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

Blank screen

Did it boot all the way? Do you hear the fan running, disk drive spinning? If it sounds like it booted but the display is black, try this:
When you press the power button do you hear fansrunning, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lightsconstantly blinking, hear the DvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer ofthe DvD/CD turn on for a second or two? If so the laptop is trying toboot or may have booted, but the screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous.

No disiplay on the screen of the laptop and on the external monitor

No display on either? Does it sound like the computer completed the boot cycle? Do you hear fans running and the hard drive spinning?

What happens when you hit the power button? Do you hear any beeps or see any blinking lights? Does anything post to the screen during the boot cycle?

If the boot cycle completed and you see no display on either monitor, then your video card is bad.

Gateway GM5442 PC Desktop Won't Boot!

3 BEEPS -RAM

Guest Posts: n/a 01-24-2005 We had a power failure in the office this weekend. All the systems are back
up and running fine, except for the receptionists. It's a Gateway
Professional Series. P4 1.3 Ghz. It is giving me three beeps. No boot up
screen and no video source (monitor light stays yellow instead of turning
green). I looked up the beep code and it says three beeps means the ram
needs reseated. Which I have done several times. Also, I have just put in
one stick in difference seats. I have also reseated all the cards at least
three times. I have switched the jumper to try to boot into setup mode.
Nothing there either. Popped out the cmos battery and put it back in. No
good either.

Has all the ram been fried? The fan on the cpu is still spinning. The cd-rom
ejects. I can't hear the hard drive spinning. I guess I can swap the hard
drive for a different one.

Anything I'm missing? YEP

Fan just work for seconds

Replace the fan or your computer will run hot and keep turning off.

Or are you saying this is what happens when you power on the computer? if so: When you press the power button do you hear fansrunning, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lightsconstantly blinking, hear the DvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer ofthe DvD/CD turn on for a second or two? My 915-m5 mb starts but have no video. No sound except for fans and hd are noted, but no signal video is seen in monitor. Please answer to joitod@coqui.net at your earliest convenience. Thanks

do you get a single beep about 2 to 5 seconds after the system is powered up..? If no, then your mainboard IS NOT working. The fans and hard drives will still spin up even if the mainboard is not booting. You need to listen for that single beep as this tells you that the boards POST (power on self test) has completed and all is well. If it does not beep, then you have a mainboard issue. Reply to this and tell us if you hear this beep or not..

The desktop won't reboot. The power light stays yellow. I hear a fan running, but the monitor says no signal.

If your fan runs and the hard drive spins up, then you have a video card problem.
I'd do this: Disconnect everything inside the case but the CPU, memory, and video. Now try to boot. Also observe the fan on the CPU--does it spin?
If this fails, then your video has probably gone bad. Also--does your computer usually give you a "beep" when it starts up? If so, is it giving you a beep now? If not, you're failing the hardware startup test (POST).
So, your problem may be the video card. If your video is part of the motherboard, then you need to replace the motherboard.
