Question about Toshiba Satellite A215-S6820 Notebook

1 Answer

Need to replace dvd dr and can't get notebook apart.

How do I take it apart? I tried once but was missing a screw or clip that couldn't be seen and I couldn't get it apart. For fear of breaking something I stopped and screwed the screws back in.

Thank you in advance for anyone who can help me.

You need to have a manual of that on how to remove. It is hard for the people who do not have experience in laptop trouble but you can do it with your self. You need to follow of this some instruction.

The first things you should do is to remove the battery.

Insert a sharp thin object between the keyboard securing strip and the laptop base and carefully lift up the strip. After that you can continue removing the keyboard strip with your fingers.

Remove the keyboard securing strip.

Remove two screws securing the laptop keyboard.
After you remove the screws, lift up the keyboard and place is so you can access the keyboard connector on the system board.

If you need to remove and replace the keyboard, you can do it now. Before you pull the keyboard cable from the connector you have to open the connector.
To remove the DVD/CD-ROM drive, remove the securing screw first. After that push on the drive to slide it away from the laptop base.

Grasp the drive and remove it from the laptop.

Before you replace the optical drive, do not forget to transfer braces to a new optical drive.

You can view some photos of that procedure here,

How do i get the laptop fully apart, i can get it halfway, but the DVD Drive is holding me back

Make sure that you have unscrewed at the bottom side of the laptop. One of those screws holds the DVD drive in place. When you are sure all these screws are removed, open the DVD drive's tray using a straightened paper clip inserted in the hole on the front panel of the DVD drive. Next, hold the DVD drive's tray & pull it out of its slot.

How do I open the case to replace the motherboard

Did this last night.

The key to the whole case opening is the silver panel in back of the keyboard. It has clips on the sides and clips over the screen hinges, but the tricky clips are the two under the battery. Once you get this panel off, you can take out the two keyboard screws.

Take the keyboard off second so that you can get to the three ribbon cables under it before you get too far into the tear down.

Don't forget the three screws hiding inside the DVD slot (you have to remove the DVD to get to them).

I need to replace dc jack on my Acer extensa 4420 laptop, but the bottom cover won't pry off (I removed all the visible screws). Am I missing a step? Most computer covers pop right out once you removed the...

if it has 'rubber' non-slip pads, try prying them off- may have screws under them- hope you're really good with a soldering iron!! may just need to re-solder loose connection! good hands, good eyes, good iron!! use 'organic-core' solder!!
good luck! may have screws under battery slot, ram cover, hd cover! can be a royal pain! may check their web-site for 'exploded' maintainance' diagrams showing how to dis-assemble laptop! don't forget, they're small and light for a reason, and not as forgiving as desk-tops!! whatever you do-remove power supply cord & battery, before you continuing to dis-assemble it! no- i'm not considering you stupid!!
you obviously have diagnosed the problem, and are trying to access the the problem area! i've seen several laptops with the same 'weakness'- it's like- 'DUH'- couldn,t you find a better place to save a few cents?? a major stress point! bet it keeps the 'official' repair centers in the 'bucks'!
ah, well! enough grousing- again- good luck!

DVD/CD-ROM drive missing

Problem with missing dvd-drive with Acer 5101 solved.
Problem was that depending on boot, even bios couldn?t detect dvd-drive. I
opened my laptop and found out that there were one small screw that wasn?t
connected to anywhere. I opened the screw that locks dvd-drive in to 2.5? slot. In the back of the
dvd-drive is L- shaped peace of metal. One of it?s screws were already dropped
and 2 that were left were loose. I tightened those screws, but drive back and
got my laptop working fine.

Please feel free to post this solution to other forums as

How do you open DVD Player? DRC630N-M

I've successfully opened the case and re-attached the ribbon cable and now have a working dvd player (DRC630-N).

Once the screws are removed, you will want focus on separating the case at two clip locations on the bottom of the player, centered approximately 1 1/4 inches to either side of the brass threaded insert on the bottom.

You can see one of them broke for me when I was trying to get it open. If you apply some pressure under those clips you may have more success avoiding any clip breaking. I'm not worried about it since with all the screws it is plenty secure. What I did to get it open at these clips was insert a small flat screwdriver head in the small gap (seam) at the clip locations and twist. It did gouge the plastic a bit, but worked well enough. Once this side opens up you should be careful about separating the unit along the side with all the plugs. It took a bit of easing around the volume wheel and a couple plugs to get it fully apart. The opposite end of the player from the clips will come apart once the clips have been released as it is on a separable hinge.

Here is the ribbon cable detached from the circuit board.

The ribbon cable (blue part) slides into the black and white connector. Make sure the black part is pulled slightly away from the white part when you are sliding in the cable. Once the cable is in as far as it will go then slide the black part of the connector until it is flush against the white part. This secures the ribbon cable in place.

Here is a picture with the ribbon cable slid all the way into the connector and but still unsecured:

Now here is a picture with the black part pushed tight with the white part of the connector:

Here is how it looked when I closed the case back up:

Good luck. Hopefully this helps.

Toshiba P105-S6124 DVD Drive replacement.

there is usually one screw holding the dvd drive in, lay the PC closed, upside down, and lay the replacement drive in line with the old drive, this may tell you the exact location, or where to look (it may be under another removable panel, once the one screw is removed, the drive should slide out, if you eject the drawer, it is easier to remove after you pull out the screw, most have a manual eject (Pinhole in front by eject button) insert a straightened paper clip straight in. let me know if this helps or you need more info

Replacing CD-RW/DVD Drive

I own a Presario F730US. I have had it apart many times and it is a difficult case to open. There are several ribbon cables that are easily damaged if you are not very careful. You have to pop up the speaker cover panel as there are case screws under it as well. Once inside you will see the screws that retain the optical drive. Once you remove them it will slide right out and the new one will slide right in. I can not overstate how careful you have to be. If you are not 100% sure of yourself I would recomend that you take it to a repair shop and let a qualified tech assist you. The screws you need to get to are under the keyboard. The whole laptop does not need to be disassembled to swap the drive. Once you pop the speaker bazel and the keyboard you are home free. If you need more help feel free to ask.
