My epson rx650 ink pad replacement.

Epson have there reset's pretty locked up, Agents have to register to gain axcess rights to software program tool that resets purge counter (waste count rset) , there are 7 pads in these printers just felt blocks that suck up ink and the electronic counter. all colours are mixed in felt so no draining guess you could wash them out but it is the counter that will stop you, wont go till reset. I have seen some after market ink chip resets but dont know if they work.

Epson about 6 months ago sealed up their tec support download system, now we have to identify agent and rep who is downloading the "eagle" software that is the Epson adj software that allows adjustment and reset of waste ink counter.

Tips for the epson R300

The message on your printer saying that "some parts have reached their life expectancy" or "service is required" followed by a shutdown of the printer has caused many people great anxiety. Some users have even sworn never to buy another inkjet printer from the manufacturer. If you interpret the message to mean that the mechanical parts of the printer have worn out, this feeling is normal. After all, who wants a printer that wears out when maybe only two years old? The message really should say, "The ink waste pads are full and must be replaced." With the Epson, R300 printer the problem can be solved as follows:
1. You can buy a new printer.
2. Reset the inkpad counter to zero by holding down both the Power and Stop buttons for at least 10 seconds. Then redirect the waste ink to an outside receptacle. Open the panel located on the right hand side of the back of the printer near the serial number location. It is held by a single screw. The ink waste tube can be fished out of the printer through this opening and lead into an outside receptacle. You will never have to replace the inkpads.
3. Reset the inkpad counter as above. Take the printer apart and replace the inkpads with new pads, if you can buy some. If you can't buy new inkpads, wash the used inkpads with soap and water. Let them dry and put them back in the printer. You can also replace them with absorbing materials like Huggies, Kotex, etc.

Fortunately, I chose the first method before becoming aware of the other solutions. Buying a new printer is actually cheap and this is probably due to the manufacturer's desire to keep you as a customer. At the Epson online Store, under refurbished printers, I bought an Artisan 50 printer for under $60. When you figure that six new ink cartridges come with the printer and you don't have to buy inkpads it is essentially free. In addition, the new software is better than that on the R300 and the CD/DVD tray is smoother. The software is also compatible with files made by the R300.

Since the R300 was no longer needed, it was used to look at the other methods for solving the inkpad problem.

The second method was the cheapest and quickest solution. However, it potentially has a disastrous problem. The ink waste is pumped through the plastic waste tube by compression of the tube. This puts motion on the ink and it is unbelievable how easy it is to have the ink leave the receptacle. If this happens, clean up any ink spill with Resolve carpet cleaner. In addition, if you have kids or pets the ink receptacle may not always stay where you put it.

The third method is NOT recommended unless you just like to take things apart or have other problems, like a clogged ink head that requires the removal of the ink carriage. See the PDF on web site.

Every time a site was found that purported to have a service manual for the Epson R300 printer it couldn't be delivered, even for a steep price. Therefore, I decided to make a "Take a Part" document for the Epson R300 and try all of the methods shown above for inkpad and other repairs. This "Take a Part" document is available as a PDF.I will be pleased to email it to you. I am not a printer technician so please forgive any errors in nomenclature. The photos should identify the part.

Washing the inkpads for reuse is, in my opinion, the worst operation imaginable. DON'T DO IT. If you can't find new inkpads, use one of the materials mentioned above to replace them. In the "Take a Part" document, two layers of Moddess Hygiene Pads are shown as the substitute. Do not take the pads apart, but be sure the bottom layers are placed with the water resistant layer side down and the upper layers with the water resistant layer side up. There are certain parts of the printer that should not be disassembled if you only want to change the inkpads. These include removal of the ink carriage and its shaft, removal of the waste ink pump, and removal of the CD/DVD print mechanism.
Not works

You can reset the waste ink counter using

The generic SSC utility is also available at

However, remember ink is still accumulating in the waste ink reservoir and will eventually start to leak out. To replace the waste ink pads you need to disassemble the printer.

A free copy of the service manual is available at

Epson c70 problem

Re: Epson C70 Problem by Denny Conway (12/18/03 9:05 AM) reply + / - Aspah:A Service Error where all LED's/Lights are blinking at the same time,is normally a Maintenance Request Error, which is actually a Waste InkPad Overflow Error...JUST SO YOU WILL KNOW: On most Epson's, while theprinter is in this error condition, it disables all operations, including data communication. Normally your remedy is to replace theWaste Ink Pad/Pads with a new one/ones and then reset the InternalWaste Ink Pad Counter. If you just reset the counter and don't replacethe pads, then your printers old pads will eventually overflow andnormally start leaking ink out the bottom of your printer. You may wantto try doing a general search on the "" printerrepair site, under WASTE INK PADS or WASTE INK COUNTER RESET PROCEDURE.You should be able to find quite a few references listed in the lastsix months and most included web-site links, for possible help on thereset procedure. Some also list links where you can purchase a SERVICEMANUAL, in case you want to try and do the service yourself...GoodLuck! Denny Conway...P.S. 0.gif Re: Epson C70 Problem by Jim (12/21/03 4:10 PM) reply + / - I have just installed colour cartridges and a black cartridge into my C70.
Myproblem is that the black cartridge is not being recognised and I aminformed by the printer that there is insufficient ink in the cartridgeand a need a new replacement. The black cartridge that I have used is agenuine epson cartridge.
I have been informed by epson help linethat either I need to install a new new cartridge or that my printerneeds to go to Epson for a maintenance check.
I cannot afford another new ink cartridge nor can I afford the return charges and maintenance bill from epson.

Can you help?

0.gif Re: Epson C70 Problem by Wes t.gif (12/21/03 4:47 PM) reply + / - Theonly two option I can think of is to return the ink cartridge asdefective or you can trick the printer into accepting the cartridge.

Youwill need to download the SSC Service Utility and click on the "ResetCounters" tab and then click the "Reset Black" tab to reset the blackink cartridge. The only problem is you will need to reset or freeze theink cartridge.

You can get the SSC Service Utility here

I hope this gets your printer going again.

Replace or clean ink pad and reset chip

The waste ink pads in the bottom of the printer have "timed out", and the nagging message is automatically posted. To bypass the message, power the printer down, and hold down the STOP and B&W buttons on startup.
While this will (probably) remove the message, those messy little pads need to be replaced, or it'll get ugly under there. You'll probably pay about $65-$86 for an hour of tech help to clean it up. Check on line for procedures for unbolting the base and swapping out the pads; you might save yourself a little money and learn something useful about the machine!
