Question about Uniden GMR325-2 3 miles 22 Channel Two-Way Radio

1 Answer

We are looking for a two way radio system to use in rugged bush conditions with undulating country. The system will be used as an emergency system between a base station and two patrol cars. The base station will have 240 volt power available via a generator. What do you suggest? Bill, Malaga Western Australia Ps I have listed an item we do not have the only way to proceed and get your advice.

How far is a two mile range reach

I suspect this question is not about Cars and trucks but about small low-powered radio transmitters.

The radiation from a transmitter is not predictable and can be affected by many local conditions. As far as low-powered hand-held type radios is concerned, the quoted range is likely to be the maximum range under ideal conditions, ie. in open and flat country away from all buildings and man-made structures.

The actual range of a pair of two-way radios stated as having a range of up to two miles could be as little as a hundred yards, depending on where they are being used.

Much also depends on the cost of the radios, the operating frequency and power output, whether digital and whether amplitude modulated (am) or frequency modulated (fm) and of course the effectiveness of the antennas.
If the police and other authorities could communicate just as well with 2-way kiddy radios from Walmart there would be no reason for the taxpayers to buy each of them a radio costing hundreds of dollars.

I suggest you test your 2-way radios (with fresh batteries) in flat open country and if the effective range falls far short of 2 miles it will be time to have a meaningful discussion with the retailer where you bought them.

Good luck!

Emergency flasher switch

The Hazard Warning flasher switch is located in the center of the instrument panel above the radio. Press the switch to turn on the Hazard Warning flasher. When the switch is activated, all directional turn signals will flash on and off to warn oncoming traffic of an emergency. Press the switch a second time to turn off the Hazard Warning flasher. This is an emergency warning system and should not be used when the vehicle is in motion. Use it when your vehicle is disabled and is creating a safety hazard for other motorists. When you must leave the vehicle to seek assistance, the Hazard Warning flasher will continue to operate even though the ignition switch is OFF. NOTE: With extended use, the Hazard Warning flasher may wear down your battery.

Emergency calls

Hi Ivan
Please see the following extract from Wikipedia re: your query.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

112 (emergency telephone number) 112 is the common emergency telephone number that can be dialed free of charge from any fixed or mobile telephone in order to reach emergency services (ambulance, fire and rescue, police) in numerous European Countries, including all member states of the European Union, as well as several other countries in the world. In some countries other numbers previously used also continue to be available; e.g. 999 and 112 both function in the UK. In the United States, some carriers, including AT&T, will map the number 112 to its emergency number 9-1-1.

I hear a squeeking sound when drivining my nissan pathfinder

Check all suspension bushes for wear as well as strut top condition and the condition and position of the rubber seats at the base of the springs within the damper units. All of these areas are prone to wear and may eventually cause such noises when travelling over undulating terrain.

The FCC has designated channel 9 as an emergency contact channel. With this being said, channel 9 is only valid in the United States, while other countries do not have an officially designated emergency channel that I am aware of.

Have 2006 chevy 3500. 6.0 litre new battery 16 days ago even after installing new battery seems to have trouble starting like a ground prob. Was told prob starter bushings. It is a dump truck that gets...

Being started that many times per day, chances are that bushings are worn as are all the internal components. You could rebuild it but to do that correctly likely the parts would cost you more than a completely rebuilt unit. A good rebuild includes new end bushings, brushes, solenoid and bendix drive. The only original parts should be the housing, field coils and armature. The symptoms you posted sound more like a worn brush or solenoid internal contact. When testing voltages, your radio and lights are not a really good indicator of battery condition or charging system operation. Always use a good volt or multi-meter to do testing.

Hi there, We bought a Crosley CR66 three weeks ago - it's been working beautifully until now, when the turntable has suddenly become completely unbalanced, and now kind of 'undulates' rather than...

It sounds like the record platter is not seeded correctly onto the turntable body. Is it possible to reseed the platter?

The belt driving the unit could also be off center, causing your undulations.

Is the mat properly centered on the unit? would this be causing the undulations?
