Washer will not spin; displays nd error

Washer starts to spin for about 2 seconds, stops spinning but timer continues to count down to zero, then error code displays "nd". This happens on the spin cycle and 2 different wash cycles we have tried. Could not find any troubleshooting info of value in the owners manual. What does nd mean?
Thank-you,
Anne

We have the same display of nd on our washer. when the drain pipe was taken out of the main drain out of the house the machine drained out. So there doesn't seem to be a clog in the drain pipe. The pump seems to have rust around it. My husband can't seem to find much info on the machine at all forget about specifics about the pump

I was washing a load of towels when the washer sounded funny. The code nd appeared. Don't ever open the door when that appears, because I did and water and suds came spilling out on the floor! I tried putting it on the spin cycle, it ran for about 8 minutes, and the nd code came up again. It's Saturday afternoon and the appliance store where we bought it is closed. The drains in our house are working and we can't see any kinks in the hose. I guess we'll wait until Monday and call a repairman.

CHECK THE PUMP. I had the same problem and after removing the pump (fairly easy) found a clump of stuffing from a hole in a quilt jammed in the impellor. After removing and installing the then cleaned out pump it worked perfectly. Suggest using a regular stainless steel hose clamp in place of the factory clamp that is hard to put into position on the hose to the pump. Be sure to put the clear plastic bag back in place over the pump assembly to protect the pump from water damage.

The machine will start a cycle normally, but after the timer reaches a certain point it stops counting down and the machine will continue to agitate until you force it to stop.

Thank you for verifying the model type so many folks post non FAV6800A/FAV9800A questions in this forum machine specific topic area.

FAV6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

You will need the Service Manual for support. I’m an owner like you with a solid repair skills on the machine and will try to help you DIY the repair if we can ID the issue through troubleshooting.

Do you have this condition in all wash cycles? Will a Quick Wash cycle complete? Do you see the Cycle Status LED ever indicate the machine has moved to the Spin Cycle during the wash cycle? This could be a Control Board failure but we need to troubleshoot.

I want to make sure the Wash basket will spin up with a Spin Only cycle selection. Can you select a Spin Only cycle with a empty wash basket. I would release the washer top so you can observe this test. I want to rule out a broken Clutch large wrap spring.

Page 33 of the Service Manual will show you how to release the washer top from the base. In Spin Only cycle raise the top just enough to make sure the wash basket is rotating Counter Clock Wise – CCW with the Spin Only cycle selected and operated.

If the above test doesn’t indicate an issue I would like you to try the Quick Service Cycle test on page 15 of the Service Manual and see if your FAV6800A will pass that test with no clothes in the washer. When you put the machine in Service Mode press and hold simultaneously the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys until the machine beeps and the LED display reads 00. Then press Wash/Rinse Temp to start Quick Service Cycle test. Did the test complete with a PA indication in the display? It will only display the PA code for a few seconds. End of cycle will beep washer will unlock and Cycle Status LED will indicate complete.

Waiting for your reply….Rich

Spin Cycle

I just replaced my second motor control board because of the same problem. Mine starts to spin but never reaches speed and stops, then it repeats. It can do this for hours. I think we are overloading the machine washing area rugs. The fuses are OK on both failed boards and nothing is burned and all caps look normal. At $150 a pop, I would rather replace some components if I knew which ones. For a quick fix, the new board worked for me.

Frigidaire (LTF2940E) Washer starts, stops, starts, stops...

The cycle doesn't advance When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Washer agitates, drains OK, but spin doesn't start

Timer is defective. Your unit has a netural drain. When finished agitating, the shuts down and then starts up reversing to drain and spin. On the initial reverse start, the water drains without the transmission spinning. After a timed period 3-4 minutes, the timer is supposed to pause, stopping the motor for a few seconds. When the motor stops again, the transmission shift to the spin cycle and when the timer resumes power tothe motor it should spin. You are doing the same thing when you lift the lid...stopping the timer and then the tranny shifts and when you set the lid down, the washer spins. Replace the timer.......

Washer fills with water and thats it

Possible a bad motor control board. Depending on the age of the washer, you may need to replace the motor control board and the motor as a kit. Also be sure to test that the motor control board is getting power, I've seen cases of the motor/ motor control failing and taking out the main control also. The tech sheet is in the console and should walk you through the steps.
