This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

Downloading pics from the camera, I want to preview whats on the camera and select some NOT ALL of the photos on the camera. When you use the Fine Pix Viewer it only gives you options to save every photo...

In FinepixViewer. Under Settings, click Operation Setting When The Camera Is Connected.
Select Show List Of images...
Click OK.
Now FinepixViewer will only show the images on the camera but will not save any. You can mark images to be saved one at the time, or multiple images if you hold down Crtl key.

When I preview a document on my V500 Photo scanner, The operation goes to completion, but an image is never displayed. I have upgraded to Windows 7. The program ran fine but has suddenly stopped...

Make sure you didn't change the default settings for the scanned image. Sometimes we fiddle with those settings and create a file size that is either too large or out of bounds for our scanner. also try reducing the scanned image density and see if that helps. Sometimes the image is just too large for your installed memory to handle, I saw a jpg image on a customers PC once that was 8 gigabytes and he complained that it would never load.

How to overlay picture in D40x camera

Overlaying pictures, like almost all photo manipulations, is better done on a computer using "real" software rather than on a camera. You get much more control on a computer. However, the D40 does have a wide repertoire of photo manipulation capabilities.

In order to overlay images, you must be shooting in RAW (or RAW+JPEG). Select Image Overlay from the Retouch menu. A preview dialog will be displayed with Image 1 highlighted. Press OK to get a photo selection dialog. Use left/right to highlight the first picture in the overlay. (You can press and hold the Zoom button to see the selected photo fullscreen.) Press OK to select the image. Optimize exposure for the image by pressing up/down. Press left/right to highlight Image 2. Select the second image the same way. Press left/right to highlight the Preview column. Overlay will show you the result, allowing you to go back and change things if you wish. Save will save the overlaid photo.

The shadow in the lower portion of your camera is probably caused by the lens hood. The solution is simple: remove the lens hood whenever you're using the built-in flash.

Theres no image / preview after took a shot but theres a data on cf card

There's a menu setting to enable preview after shooting. It also lets you choose for how many seconds you want the preview to stay on. Go to menu under the "Playback" option.

Does pressing "Play" button show the image? If it does, then just perform the above adjustment to your settings.

Canon powershot sd400. power up, camera functions work, but in picture taking mode, my screen (view finder is black). also in videw mode. viewing previous pictures is ok. battery is fully charged.

There is usually a button for turning the screen on and off, or only on for previewing (browsing images). (and sometimes there is an option for having the screen on without the On-Screen Display)

I don't know exactly which one on your camera... sometimes the up button, sometimes there is a little symbol.

Play with it, and eventually you'll find the right button. =-]

Delayed preview image

Sounds like you accidentally pressed the DISP button on the back (it manually turns the LCD screen on and off to save batteries). Turn the camera on and press the DISP button once. Hopefully that should fix it.

LCD oddly discolored but final image OK

Don't rush to the store. CCD's in video cameras have it, My Coolpix has it. It has something to do with the way information is written to or read from an LCD or CCD. And although it looks bad, it's perfectly normal. Use an early days $50,000 broadcast CCD videocamera to record a person welding and you'll get a perfectly vertical white line in your image. But as you said: It's not in the actual image of the Coolpix (although I wouldn't know if it will show up when you make a picture of someone welding).
