Question about GE (PSS26MSRSS) Side by Side Refrigerator

Freezer keeps running but fridge not cooling anymore

My GE model # GSH25KGMDBB side by side has had troble in the past with the control board burning out while we were on vacation. Now it appears a little over a year later we are starting to have the same issue again. The freezer keeps running, eventually ice starts to form on the back of the freezer and cool air stops circulating into the refridgerator section. I unplugged the fridge, defrosted, cleaned the coils and made sure all drainage was sufficient. What else could it be?

Although fixmyboard is technically correct in his diagnosis , Important steps , are missing in directing you WHAT and HOW and WHY . Pull the refrig out from the wall , and remove the 8 " X 10 " panel , which houses the main control board . In the area where there are 5 or 6 white plugins , the top right is the J1 connector . Disconnect the J1 connector , and check between pins ( 3 to 5 ) (4 to 5 ) . Different ohm readings , dependent on the temperature of the actual thermistors , will be read . If the ohm readings do not match the approx temp , then that is where the problem is . Fixmyboard , needs to give his solutions more detailed for the normal consumer to be able to work with . This is his solution , so I cannot break in with my solution , which would be about the same overall concept .

My GE side by side model GSH25KGMD will not keep freezer items frozen yet the refrigerator works fine. It appears as though a fan is running in the freezer constantly.

We see the mainboard cause this symptom, but evap and freezer thermistors can also cause this symptom.

Pull J1 and check connector pins 1,2,3 and 4 to pin 5. They should be approximately 15Kohms. In your case, the freezer thermistors (pin 3 and 4 ) should be higher than the fresh food (pins 1 and 2).

More than likely your defrost timer has failed. This is available from GE. But it can be much simpler than that... look in the back of the freezer where all that ice formed. Near the top of the coil at the fan, see if you can locate a thermocouple clipped onto the tubing and two wires from there to a plug that carries power to the defrost heating element. If you find it, you can test it to see if it makes a strong contact (less than 5 ohms) below 40 degrees F. If not see if it is open circuit or high resistance (above 100 ohms) at temperatures below freezing. You must remove one wire or unplug the thermocouple for testing with the ohm meter. Be careful to conduct your tests when the freezer is unplugged from the wall outlet. The thermocouple disconnects the heating element to save energy once the ice is melted, before the timer cycle ends. I purchased a replacement thermocouple from Johnstone supply but they no longer carry it. I suggest searching for the part on-line if you can read the numbers on it, or contact GE for replacement assembly.

What causes the coils behind the panel in the freezer to freeze up and stop the freezer fan? top half of freezer defrosts, lower half stays cold.Fridge is side by side and freezer fan keeps turning of

When the evaporator fan motor stops running the top half of the back wall of the freezer will frost over and the the only reason the lower portion stays cool is because cold air falls. More than likely you have a a dc motor fan and its bad, but be wary with ge, the main control board could also go bad causing the fan not to run.

You need to test wiring harness and connectors, and control board. (motherboard) seems to have a control board problem. If your not getting 120 volts in the light socket then you have a board problem check for loose wire at the control board.Hope you rate my response. Thanks

Frig side does not cool. freezer side cools

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Profile fridge/freezer not cooling. Contol pannel

Fist thing you want to do is unplug pull away from wall and remove the cover that covers the motherboard. Then try to loosen by squeezing the plastic tabs that hold the mother board in place pull the board away just enough to expose the back side. Tell me if you see burn marks that are sometimes visible on boards when they become defective. What I want to find is if the high voltage side has failed powering the low voltage side or you just mayhave a defective control panel. Are lights out on the dispenser control panel? Is the model you listed correct PSW26? I can help if you like, Thanks, Sea Breeze

GE Profile PSC25 won't cool past 45 degrees

With that model that is a sign that defrost is not happening on time or the beginning of the problem. Temperatures in fresh food compartment above 38 are not safe. Look into the back of the freezer compartment and let me know if you see a frost line buildup. If yes it would be a good idea to manually defrost the freezer so you can remove the rear panel and check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. It's also important that with this model that the problem be resolved quickly. I can help you if you want. The defrost heater will be easy to see if burned out because it has a glass tube around the heating element. If you replace the defrost heater you should also change the defrost thermostat. Fan motors going bad on that refrigerator seem to always damage the control board and if the board is replaced the the fan motor should also. Let me know if you want me to help you, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Freezer is frozen fridge is warm

Your model is most likely the Profile Artica style. Most times the defrost heater is burned out behind the rear of the freezer wall. Manually defrost and look at the defrost heater to see if burned out. That model possibly has the glass covered defrost heater and will be easy to spot if burned out because the element is inside a glass tube, If you replace the defrost heater also replace the defrost thermostat, Please send me your model number located near floor of the fresh food compartment door seal and kick plate, Thanks Sea Breeze

Fridge not cooling, intermittenly working... if we unplug it.

3 possible reasons this is happening. The control board part number
WR55X10172 Is defective. or the defrost heater or defrost thermostat. This also can be caused by the main control board part number WR55X10656 The first photo shows burn marks on the back side of the control board. We need to unplug and examine the main control board on both sides. You can visit my website and enter the model number into the model and search feature. That takes you the a list of photos of your refrigerator. You also can email me or call. My email is appliancepartsse@yahoo.com and my sites are listed below, Thank You Sea Breeze

HRS flashing, nothing getting cold

Your refrigerator has a control board on the back behind a metal panel. Unplug and look at both sides to see if you see burn marks or loose solder. Go to this site and place model PS123NCRBV into the model search feature. That will take you to 13 similar models. The board on back is my first concern and the control inside will need to be looked at also if you find no problems on the back. The control board number is WR55X10656 let me know what you find, Thanks, Sea Breeze
