The thermocoupler is no good. It's that bulb sitting in the pilot flame. when it goes out it shuts everything doen in the main valve. It has to be kept hot by the pilot, that's how it know whether or not it is safe to open the main .

Ummm, not thinking its that.
Since it does stay lit i'm thinking the rush of gas is blowing it out, i've seen it happen with no fault of the thermocouple. Could be a blocked/dirty pilot orfice or something close to that. just my thoughts on it...good luck!

The wire coming out of the place where the termocouple attaches to the frame is connected to nothing. When should it be connected?

Empire dv-25. Pilot lights fine, good blue flame. Burner rail won't light or stay lit - sometimes it starts to catch. Orifice was removed and was clean - no debris. Not sure where to look next? T.Y.

Do you have an electrical meter that measures millivolts? This sounds like a millivolt system. The pilot orfice and pilot burner need to be clean so they are producing a hot flame, hitting the pilot generator to create enough millivoltage to open the main valve coil. If you know how to jumper the thermostat circuit try it, Millivolt systems will give you problems if there are loose connections or to much resistance through a switch. Again, there could be some type of safety switch that is wired into the thermostat circuit to prevent the heater from coming on if it isn't safe. Call a pro if its not obvious

When I try to use my Thermolaire model SU402E, the pilot lights( and stays lit), but the main burner will NOT ignite.. any suggestions as to what could cause this if the pilot stays lit?

Bad igniter? When you 1st try it the gas valve will give enough gas that you would get the burner lit if the igniter was glowing red. If you're desperate you can light the igniter area w/ an aim n flame, but you definitely want to do that w/ caution and crank up your t-stat so the furnace stays on awhile Cuz you'll have to do it again for heat or buy an igniter($40 or so)

Empire Hearter (old unit) Model # DU 215-7SG Pilot light goes on and stay on but the main burner will not ignite.

I notice that I have the same problem and the wire coming out of the frame on the outside opposite where the thermocouple attaches to the frame on the inside goes nowhere. Shouldn't that wire connecting to something? If so, exactly where is the point of attachement of that wire? It should control the opening of the main gas value somehow.

1 Answer My Empire DV-210-6sg, the pilot lights and I can turn on the unit, but it will not sense the themostat to heat the room. themostat tested fine. what is wrong

There is another sensor called a thermopile or pile generator that most likely needs replacing. Look for two wires connected to the gas valve that has a metal strip wound around the outside of the wire. This will go to the pilot assembly and controls the main burner.

Rheem gas furnace pilot lights, but no burners or fan

If the burners do not fully ignite, the sensor will shut the furnace down. The lack of sufficient burner flame is a gas valve or gas pressure problem within the valve.
Replacing the gas valve with the original one may get you going. I surely suggest a professional service company for safety reasons and a thorough inspection. A 20 year old furnace is past it's normal life span.

Pilot light wont stay lit

You need to replace the pilot safety switch which is usually a Thermocouple. It is connected by a thin tube from the gas valve to a bulb near the pilot burner. It should be available at Home Depot or online.

Pilot and burners

You need to check a couple of things, first is the flame sensor, second is the thermostat. Without anymore detailed info this is the most I can give you.
