Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

1 Answer

The light bulbs (originals) in the control panel became very hot. The sockets are brown and the panel melted so it is now hanging by the wires. Also, the back of the freezer is constantly covered with ice needing defrosting. The refrigerator is only 2 years old. Model number is 795.7730 or 795.7731. What do we do?

You have either a blockage in the cooling system for the icing issue or is low on refrigerant. As far as the control panel, if its getting hot to where its melting you have a short somewehere, If only 2 years old may still be under warranty ad I would definitely call Kenmore about that one and if your fuss enough and have them believe you won't buy anymore of their products and will tell people not to buy them they will sometimes repair/replace the appliance...

Sonata tail light socket melted. attempting to replace with after market socket. red, green and black coming form vehicle.

If you have a test light or voltmeter, turn park lights on and find the one wire on vehicle that is hot-it will almost surely be red or green, as the black is surely the ground wire. Now on the new socket, you need to know this: If those bulbs are two filament bulbs (one filament for park lights, and the other filament for brake or turn or both) the brake light and the turn light will be brighter than the park lights. You can tell the difference in brightness, and the brake lights are always brighter than the tail (or park) lights.
How many bulbs are on this socket? Do you have 2-filamet bulbs or just one filament bulbs? Maybe you can figure it out by looking at the other side, see how or which lights are for tails and which for brakes.

Brake light failure

Bad circuit board tail light asseblise connector pin to board poor connection or burned push in light bulb sockets
On my '93 Chevy PU the new ones went bad within months I repaired the original ones by soldering all connector pins to the board cleaned the sockets chipping out melted plastic been working for five years now.
Care must be taken to keep solder from preventing wire connector install while using enough that plugging it in will not break these delicate unions.
Required pulling them several times to Finnish repair successfully.
Very disappointed in replacement parts.

Head light not working I see two brown wires are hanging

Hi, Anonymous if your headlight is not working the first thing to check is the headlight bulb for damaged filaments then check your light circuit fuse, that being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty ground or power supply to headlight bulb socket.
2. Faulty hi/lo beam switch.
3. Faulty ignition switch.
4. Fuse is good but no continuity on both sides.
5. Faulty wiring between battery positive and headlight bulb socket.

Where can I purchase the light plug for the trunk brake light on a 2008 dodge avenger

junkyard or dealer if you want the original part; or most parts stores have bulb sockets which can be installed but might look a little different.

Both bulbs on my 2002 S10 Blazer licence plate was burned out I replased them with new bulbs and they will not come on and I have checked the fuses what could be the problem?

you need to check for power and for ground at the lightbulb socket to determine which is not contributing to power the bulb(s). If the marker lights work at the rear then suspect a broken/melted light bulb socket, broken wire, or broken/rusted ground connection. Again, check at the light bulb socket for ground on one side (black wire) and 12V (brown wire) on the other. The light socket should have terminals that actually touch the light bulb; sometimes the sockets will melt not allowing a good connection. a cheap harbor freight multimeter (VOM) will help. Right and left side use separate fuses

My taillight (rear - passenger side) is not working - the other one on the driver side is. I change both bulbs in the non-working on (bulb #1157) and the tail light is still not working. What do I do...

Check the bulb socket. They get really hot and heat can cause the wires to melt solder holding them in place. If you have a test light, probe the socket pins for power,(light switch on). If none on either pin, then probe the wires an inch or so back from the socket. If wire(s) have power replace socket. If not, and even if you find power on the pins but the lamp doesn't work, then also check for a bad or loose ground wire.

Replace headlight on a 98 springer. or replace socket that bulb plugs into. black wires have melted part of socket. replced the bulb.headlight still works. one black wire is just hanging there i taped it...

The black wire is the ground wire. It should be connected to the headlight housing or the triple tree somewhere. The yellow wire is the low beam and the white wires are the high beam and high beam indicator light. I'd purchase a new headlight "pigtail" and rewire it before you have further problems.

inspect all of the sockets that the bulbs plug into. you may have a short in some of them. they can get hot and melt the plastic sockets. causing the bulbs not to work. or try replacing the wiring harness for all the rear lights. i found one in the junkyard for my cougar. and it works fine now, good luck

I just saved my fridge / home too, smelled what I thought to be an electrical fire when I opened the Trio doors, immediately looked at the bulbs as a probable cause, and sure enough, the base of the bulb sockets were burned-brown and the plastic housing was to hot to touch without a hot-mit.
Unscrewed the bulbs and set aside out of children's reach and combustable materials.

I'm filing a complaint and service repair today. 8/3/08
