It looks like you have a registry problem.
it often happens due spayware o malware messing with the windows registry..

try to turn your computer on and after you see the HP logo repeatly press they key F8 until yousee a black screen with options like start computer in safe mode, safe mode with networking, VGA mode and so on. select SAFE MODE with NETWORKING.
and press star. the compter will load windowswith the normal welcome screen, but the picture is usually bigger, try to log in as ADMINISTRATOR, it usually does not have a password. otherwise type in the password and log in.
if things goes well you will be able to download a program to fix your mess up registry.
don't panic i will tell you what to get.
go in and download the program. glary utilities, it is FREE so no worries, it has ONE CLICK SOLUTION. run the program fix the registry and it will hpefully work, restart in normal mode log in and see for yourself.

if you can't log on safe mode due you don't have the administrator password, try using you screen name, if there is not possible way to log in you will need to restore your computer with the windows disk

You are not typeing in to correct password.
If you can not remember the password, you will have to restore from restoration disks.
Check that your cap locks are not on and you are correct with entered password.

How to reset password

Try logging in without a password (hit enter). It just may be the screen saver locking it.
Ask if anybody (that has access to system) if they set a password.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lost Windows password:

  • Log in as Administrator (try safe mode if you don't see Administrator). Again no password.
  • Login as other user (if other user is availible) and manage users. Must be an administrator.
  • Reformat computer.
  • Use 3rd party software to remove password. Like

If you are talking about a user password and you not remember you set one .. it may be just the log in screen and if you hit enter without a password may just work .. after that go to the user accounts in the control panel .. select the account you use..and click to change the way users log in .. and select welcome screen ..This will remove the screen with the user log in ..
may be needed a function to be removed from the lan driver .. if you enabled the lan card log on .
another possibility is that someone with access on your computer just made a bad joke and inserted a password.. check out whom might done it and ask for the password or .. reinstall the Operation system in case the password is lost

I tried to change the welcome screen and now it is asking for a password and I did not set one, so can not log on.

If you did not set up a password, then just press enter without entering any password.

When i open window it says password and then i want to reset it

between the lines from your English I to understand that you have the log on screen where its asking for your password and not logging in with welcome screen at once remove that you have to go to the control panel the user accounts it ...and click on the acount you use..not on the guest one ...after that click remove my pasword..
.and if you do not have a password..but that screen is still appearing even if you can log on after you hit enter ..without the password..just when you open the user account in the control panel ..instead of clicking on the on the line that says change the way user log in .. ..the line that says use the welcome screen ..and thats all..
If the password thing is not a full screen but a rectangular loging that asks for user and password..than you have to go to the local area connection (the 2 monitors in the task bar ) .. double click on it ..after that properties...and in that list with the have to remove the NETWARE service clicking on it ..and after that remove ..
this will allow you to change the way users log on from the panel like I explained above...

My hp laptop is lock it keep asking me my password

if it asks for a pasword after it boots up ...and before entering in the welcome screen of means that it has a user password made by you ..or someone else...and you will have to ask the one that made it ...or you need to reinstall the operation system and the password will be gone..
If it is made by mistake ..and it do not have a password try to hit enter and will log in ...In this case the welcome screen was replaced with the log in screen and this is the reason that makes this be displayed..
if it asks for a password and it is new..and the password is displayed when you want to install it have to contact the seller or the manufacturer for the initial code..
also ..some laptops have a power on password and if you forgot it will have to remove the bios battery so to make it "forgot it "

When I log on to my pc it is asking me for a password which I never had to do before. When I try to reset it the prompt is aking me to insert a flash drive. This makes no sense to me. I shut down &...

yeah ..probably you installed a function into the lan card for remote log in ...and this changes the welcome screen with a rectangular one with the user and password..but when you hit enter it logs you without password..
Go to the user accounts in control pannel ..and try to see on the admin account if you can change the way users logs on ...if that function needs to be removed from the lan card it will instruct you to do that when you try to change the log screen into the welcome screen ..Im not sure how is called..but it has something to do with the ability to log into it from another computer ..and it is placed above the tcp/ip protocol has to me uninstalled in order to let you change the screen into the welcome one ..

Won't load Desktop

Is this running XP? Does the computer shut down or just go back to the welcome screen and ask for your password again?

If it returns to the welcome screen (and it is XP) get the following two files from another xp machine and copy them to the windows\system32 folder.

userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe

Restart the computer and log back in.

Hope this helps

Laptop asking me for a password but was never password protected

just use oph crack, use it to find a password/username then go to control panel, classic view in the top left corner, user accounts, "change the way you log on and off" then select the "welcome screen" option. if this happens still, you might be pressing a "lock" buttom to turn your pc off.
