Question about Canon PowerShot S100 Digital Camera

2 Answers

E18? Hi, folks!  I have an old Canon PowerShop s100 that displays the message "E18" when I try to turn it on.  Thoughts?  I'm going abroad tomorrow and really need a working camera!! Less pressingly, I no longer have the software that came with the camera, and I have a new Dell with Vista. I've been trying to download photos off my camera, but when I attach the camera to the computer, I'm asked to install driver software that I don't have.  Can you suggest a site to download Vista-compatible driver software?  Thanks! Best, Jessica

When my S2 IS is turned on, the lens moves out, a beeping sound occurs, but the viewfinder remains black except for the message E 18. The lens does not move back in when the off button is pressed.

The Error E18 is quite a havoc on these Canon cameras. Here is a blog with great info on it: E18 Blog
Do not force your lens back into place and don't try and jiggle it either, you will be further damaging other pieces.
This camera is very powerful and the repair is well worth it. Teleplan Camera Repair provides a quote online with the cost clearly displayed.

Hi i had an e18 error appear and the lens was stuck. the lens is now going in and out but the focus is compleatley shot every thing is blured any ideas?? thanks

Hi,

"E18" indicates an error that involves the lens unit or lens cover in your camera .This error appears where the lens is prevented from properly extending or retracting .The error may also be displayed if the lens camera has been subjected to an external shock, or if a foreign substance (i.e. liquid, sand, dirt) enters the camera.Hold the camera so that your fingers do not touch the lens unit when you are shooting. Make sure the camera is off before the camera is placed back in the case. Exercise caution to ensure that the camera does not accidentally power on while the camera is stored inside the case.If you cannot clear the error code by turning the camera off and then on again, or if the error code is displayed frequently, a camera malfunction may have occurred and might require service from canon. Or else try pressing the power button on and held it down while extending the zoom lens. The lens will extend out and the camera will be freed from the error.

Thank you !!

E18 on Canon Powershot A95

Canon E18 error happens when the lens gets stuck while trying to extend. The camera will beep a few times and the LCD will display a little E18 in the lower-left corner. The lens gets stuck in the extended position, and refuses to move either to focus the lens or to retract when powered off.

take a look at e18error.com website for more info

Hi, I researched the Canon site and the E18 message relates to a lens issue. Your lens sounds like it's "jammed" and so the camera is displaying the error message. According to the Canon online support, the error is temporary and should go away the next time you properly turn on the camera. Howevcer, since you say it happens every time, it may be a bigger issue with the lens. There suggestion is to have it inspected by a certified repair person. This is what I got off the Canon site: Issue: Lens will not move and camera may display an E18 or "Lens" error. Solution: Possible solutions for an E18 or Lens Error message PowerShot A410 The "E18" or "Lens" error message indicates an error that involves the lens unit or lens cover. This error may appear where the lens is prevented from properly extending or retracting such as, for example, when pressure is applied to the lens or the area surrounding the lens while handling the camera. The error may also be displayed if the lens unit/camera has been subjected to an external shock, or if a foreign substance (i.e. liquid, sand, dirt) enters the camera. Solution Check the following when you operate the camera to avoid applying pressure to the lens and surrounding area: * Hold the camera so that your fingers do not touch the lens unit when you are shooting. * Make sure the camera is off before the camera is placed back in the case. Exercise caution to ensure that the camera does not accidentally power on while the camera is stored inside the case. If you cannot clear the error code by turning the camera off and then on again, or if the error code is displayed frequently, a camera malfunction may have occurred. Good luck. NewMediaMan
