Question about Epson Stylus cx7450 All-In-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

I have installed the drivers for the cx7450 from Epson's website. I can now scan, but the printer doesn't show up in any of the printer options in anything - Word, Adobe - nothing. I can't print diddly/squat. I have tried again and again to download and re-install, but to no avail. I have Vista and have tried both 32 and 64 bit. Any suggestions?

    Hello Guru Muebe!

    Thanks for your quick response.

The printer is on and connected after I installed the 32 bit drivers. However, it doesn't even show up in the printers section of the Control Panel.

I tried to 'Install Printer' and it did a search and says that there is no printer.

I would default to it if it were there.

    ???

    Hi again, Muebe,

    I did everything you said.

    Uninstalled, re-booted, downloaded and re-installed.

It then told me that there was nothing to install in a window that popped up in the middle of the screen.

I then plugged the cx into another port and I was then notified me without further ado that all drivers were installed correctly and were working.

I went into Word and... nothing.

I then saw your further info about configuring it manually in control panel - printers.

The only thing I could see there was a clickable for "Install Printer" which I clicked. It of course did the search and found nothing.

Are you saying that there is someplace where I can configure the port manually into this thing? If so, how do I do it and how do I know which port it is in?

    I dislike 'Vista' intensely now...

    Okay...

I did go to the install local printer (Vista says that this only to be used for printers without a USB) and you were right - there was the port config.

And there was a USB001 - the only USB. I selected it. It offered to me a series of printer names defaulting to one - 'Epson Stylus C70 Series'. This appeared to be the closest match, so I selected it.

When it said to send a test page, it actually got the printer to move!

Excited, I moved over to the printer and, alas, all it did was **** all my paper through it, printing nothing.

But now 'Epson Stylus C70 Series (M)' actually appears in the printer options when I went to test it through Word. I tried printing a Word doc and it repeated the page sucking thing with no printing again.

Firstly, there is no 'Printers' at all in the device manager.

Secondly, I found 'EPSON Stylus CX7400' in 'Other Devices' with a question mark attached both to the 'Other Devices' and the 'EPSON...' Icons.

Undaunted, I pressed forward bravely right-clicking the 'EPSON' listing and beseeching the beast to bequeath unto me an almighty 'Update Drivers' option.

Upon receiving this blessing, I ventured upon the internet to seek the pain relief of the 'new drivers' - no such luck.

I then sought the final option of the 'recently installed driver' whereupon I realized the limit of skills when I did not know what or where to look.

I went to the Epson folder that had the drivers in it that matched the downloaded zip file. I tried just that, whereupon it informed me that, once again, I was out of luck. I then tried the only folder within that rascally bastard and it too smacked me with a '******** pal'.

I'm almost ready to go buy another printer. My time invested in getting this piece of **** to work has cost me in other areas.

So, my Fearless Fellow, we shall endure this rabbit hole for a very short while - namely one more stab at it. If it doesn't work, I will be making a trip to Best Buy, Staples, or Future Shop to buy anything other than an Epson.

There has to be printer that will be easier to install into the Vista environment.

I too, will sleep the sleep of the dead to awaken renewed to the quest of printer.

    Scott

Thank you kindly, but I've gone several rounds - and with another virtual assistant and the cursed thing still didn't work!

I went an bought a new Lexman for $60. Saved me a ton of time and headaches. It works like a charm with wireless hook-up to boot!

    Thank you!

If you're able to download and install the Printer, make sure it is in your list of Printers and set it as default.

1. Open Printers by clicking the Windows Vista Start button, click Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then finally click Printers.

2. Right-click the printer you want to use, and then click Set as Default Printer. A check mark is displayed on the printer icon to mark it as your default printer.

Please let me know if this has been verified.

First make sure that you have the correct driver installed. Do not use the 64bit vista driver if you are using the 32bit version because this will cause problems. Now go into the control panel and double click on the printers icon. Make sure that the epson cx7450 is the default printer. It will have a green circle with a check mark in it. If it does not have a check mark showing it is the default printer then you will need to make it the default printer. Right click on it and make it the default printer. If you see any old printers that are not hooked to the computer you can delete those. If you don't find the printer then you will need to use the add a printer wizard at the top of the printer window and follow the directions. Most of the programs like word, excel, ect will use the default printer and your problem might just be that the printer is not set as the default printer. Let me know what you find so I can assist you further.

I assume the printer is hooked up by USB port. Have you tried hooking the printer up to a different usb port? Try hooking the printer up to another port. Vista should see the printer and try installing drivers for it. If not then what I would do is disconnect the printer then go into add/remove programs in the control panel. Then remove the drivers and software for the printer. Then re-boot the computer. Do not hook up the printer yet. Install the re-install the software for the printer first then connect the printer when instructed by the software. This time plug it into a different usb port if you have one. Hopefully this wil get the printer working. When you looked at the printers window in the control panel did you see any installed printers?

Also when you add a printer in the control panel you need to make sure you select the usb port before it does the search otherwise it won't find a printer. I have had this problem with Vista before and I have had to manually add the printer and configure it thru the control panel.

  • muebe Oct 07, 2009

Vista is a real pain...Yes you can manually configure the printer and you may need to. When you go into the control panel double-click on the printer tab. Then click on the add a printer icon located next to the views and organize icon. Then it should ask you to choose a local or network printer...select a local printer. Then select use an existing port and on the drop-down tab and pick a usb port...it may look like usb001. Then you can select the manufacturer and model of your printer. It should be there because the driver has been installed by the software. Hopefully this will force Vista to recognize the printer thru the usb port. Let me know if this works...

Ok now that the printer has been installed you should be able to update the driver for it to the proper one. It sounds like the one that is installed Vista took but is not the correct one for the printer. Go into the control panel and click on the device manager. Find the printer and right click on it and select update drive. Then you can try selecting automatically install the driver and see if it finds the correct one but if it does not then click on manually install the driver and find the driver that you downloaded from epson. It should recognize it and update the driver. I am going to go to bed and will check in the morning if you got it working.

Can't scan more than one page under one file

you need to check for updated drivers from the manufacturer's website as the "old" drivers may not be completely compatible with windows 7.

this often happens when changing operating system to a newer OS

assuming that you mean (won't print), plug your device in, use the software included (if there is any) in there isn't any software then just go to the website: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=93718&infoType=Overview ...and download it there... there is also a support option there that you might find useful as well

How to scan?

To scan something from your printer, you will need the software that came with the printer. If you do not have them, you can download them from:

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=90584&prodoid=63069505&infoType=Downloads&platform=Windows
Just select the one for your operating system and download and install it.

After you do that, the software should guide you through the process.
If you still do not know how the scan it, you can download the instructions and manual at:

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&infoType=Doc&oid=90584&prodoid=63069505
