Hi I have a problem with entourage. The icon is still there and entourage opens when I hit the icon but all that comes up is the tool bar for entourage. When I run along the options on the tool bar ie...

one of the necessary files might have gotten deleted. If possible, I'd suggest attempting to reinstall entourage. If there's nothing dire that you would lose, or if everything is saved on mail servers (such as gmail or hotmail or something) it might be worth giving mail.app a shot, if that's an option.
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads has links for downloads, depending on which version you have, downloading a trial for installation purposes and re-entering your serial might solve problems you might be having.

If reinstalling isn't possible and you absolutely have to have what was in your entourage, some of your information could be saved in /Users//Documents/Microsoft User Data
I don't use entourage personally so I'm not an expert on it.
They also stopped shipping Microsoft Office for Mac with entourage, the latest version with it is 2008, the Home and Student editions of Office 2011 for Mac do not come with a mail client at all, the business edition comes with Outlook.
Hopefully that helps a little bit. But like I said, I don't use entourage or else I'd probably be able to offer a more concise solution.

i used to run into this when i was in school. im pretty sure its something to do with the server settings allowing non-administered computers that are running on the server to send out connections or mail for some reason. so im guessing the solution would be where ever you created the server from

My email address is t_barman@sbcglobal.net What is my incoming and out going info. i am setting up my email account in my new macbook pro.

  1. What email program are you using? Entourage (Microsoft) or Mail (Apples pre-installed Mail program).
  2. What is the Postcode of your suburb?
Generally, the mail settings are something like :

POP Settings
  • INCOMING: pop.sbcglobal.net
  • OUTGOING: smtp.sbcglobal.net

OR
  • INCOMING: mail.sbcglobal.net
  • OUTGOING: mail.sbcglobal.net

You can try both of these out. If one of them works, let me know (and rate).

If they don't, then reply back with your postcode number so I can retrieve the settings for you.

Entourage Error 3259

This may be due to the means of authentication being used -- by the STMP server you are sending to and/or the authentication options selected in your Entourage setup. Mail servers commonly establish restrictions based on authentication to restrict who can send mail through them as a means of preventing spam.

Cable companies for example, and possibly your campus network, often restrict the sending of Mail to those computers that have a local connection to their network based on the IP address they are using -- i.e. where you plugged in or which wireless adapter you are connected to. Alternatively, many others require your mail client to present your user name and password to authenticate... or possibly to authenticate only in those cases when you are not connected locally.

So... to get an iron clad answer, you need to find out from the Mail server administrators what type of authentication is required. This information is often listed on "help" web pages describing how to set up your mail client... or call them if you can. Alternatively, check your Entourage setup to see how it is contacting the server for outgoing mail. Try changing the authentication method to use Password authentication if it is not already. Ultimately, the mail administrator for your Mail server is likely your best help resource.

Hope this helps.

Error: "You may be able to send mail but not receive it. Unable to access your remote folder on the network"

Microsoft provides a patch that will need to be applied to the Exchange Server. This patch can be found at ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/winnt/winnt-public/fixes/usa/nt40/hotfixes-postSP4/Rnr-fix/rnr-fixi.exe. The server will need to be rebooted. The end user should then be able to connect using the IMAP4 client.
