This is a failure of the optical block of your TV. This was an inherent problem for your model. The only way to fix it is to replace the optical block. It is very expensive (over $700) and time consuming (takes over a hour for an experienced technician).

Sony extended the optical block warranty for your model that covered parts and labor but it expired on June 30, 2008. Contact Sony, they might be able to pay for at least part of the repair.

Here is a link to the Sony response to the issue with pictures: http://7402519399385937065-a-1802744773732722657-s-sites.googlegroups.com/site/sonylcdrptvproblems/sonyrearprojectionlcdtv-opticalblock/2003GrandWEGABlueHazeAdditionalCoverage.pdf?attachauth=ANoY7cqH-wG8F6xCLp07es9MJWf0B9tr36oyw8conVtRyMlYrQTo-iZ-dba8Nq2VTMzjXKhDY_FEX-ho-9o2iYDqTkzqtsoHY1URYyWt2tAuoQZN7XMvcCPOiA4bgQupIqffnXIuB0ldeVn8bbMwfxVB7Y9cTbRXUxV_eVqVk1YuV-m_ElE7jhtlxfQ5eG6zRY6dCmnVl-_e-eGOFdgcddmrc_Vz2iRgCGkPBL3wZAK3-KFHw2kRV-w7AHaV6-A-OqHnbU8hCU0CkFwDL-6kvxWwhg-Vn4fwsDFHLeOXn3xNgvjoxPt6i6E%3D&attredirects=0

great advice. I just called the phone number on that site, got a very helpful rep from Sony, would not repair the KDF-70XBR950, but would offer me the kdl60ex for $350, and I could keep the 70 (which I plan on replacing optical block myself). I took the offer - sweet.

Thats caused by a bad optical block. The cost of that repair will almost always be greater than replacing the TV.Thats a very common issue with alot of Sony DLP models which suffered that optical block issue with the blobs of color usually blue or green

Large yellow spot in center of tv screen

Sorry, but there is no cheap method of repair for this unless it is in warranty.

This TV will require replacement of the LCD Prism unit.

This Prism blocks and allows colors so that the 3 LCD images may be mixed to produce the final image you see on the screen. When this becomes damaged or defective, it leaks colors (light). This Color Leakage apears as spots on the screens.

Where you see the spots is where the specific spot on the prism that is leaking light, the specific color that is leaking also.

This parts cost alone is normally $500 to $1000 dollars but is usually replaced under warranty.

Good luck.....

You would need to have a technician remove the back of the TV and make the adjustment. There are 2 small adjusters that they change to adjust the voltage.

Bright blue spots on lower right corner of Sony Grand WEGA KF50WE610 50 in. Rear projection tv

The spots are from dust in the optical assy. It would need to be replaced because the only way to fix the part would be to disasemble it in a dust free room.
