Usually this is a sign of the capacitors on the power supply board failing, so you can either try replacing them or replacing the board itself which would be easier especially if you don't know how to replace capacitors. Replacing the board would be a plug in component. If you can, I would get the current power supply board and get it tested at a tv or electronics shop before moving forward. The click most likely is from this board not turning the set on.

Let me know what you find

Hi,

a) since you have replace the flyback can it be possible for you

to measure the voltage that it is having? , have someone to help

you , if you cant

b) it has a supply coming from the diode should it be still 75V

then that flyback might be not matched or properly not compatible

or partially shorted.

c) if the supply is at least 110V then there is no oscillation,

check the oscillator stages it might be blocked.

d) if there is no voltage it means the horizontal output transistor

is shorted.

e) that transistor is connected to the flyback

f) have that transistor extracted and test the collector and emitter

for short.

g) on the voltage reading the negative probe should be on the

ground side of the unit, not the ground side of the AC plug.

h) please be very careful on the flyback area.

you can safely discharge the big capacitor with a 4.7K 5W

resistor to be safe from output voltages of the psu.

i) use isolation transformer if you have , or a variac when measuring

voltages

j) please unplugged the unit when extracting and looking for shorts

have you really replaced the flyback?

what voltage reading do you have on the pins of the flyback,

what voltage reading do you get on the capacitor too?

is this the same of your board?

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Oct 07, 2009

you should have at least 6V on CP 150 2.2 uF 16V

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Oct 07, 2009

you should have a voltage reading of at least 110 V on positive side DP 110

you can measure voltage at pin 5 of the flyback

check TL010 it might be shorted ( horizontal output transistor) 2SC5717 it is the one connected to

    the flyback LL08

what voltages have you got? , have someone to help you if you feel you cant,

you definitely need your technical skills in repairing this unit, be very cautious

    in the flyback area.

try to measure just on the positive of the diode , the 2nd image i have posted

it would be a lot safer pointing the positive probe in there than just pointing

the probe on the flyback pins.

if you can read schematic diagram, be sure you can ,cause you will need

a service manual to guide you repairing the unit. , there are also CD available

which might possibly helps you too , but i am not very sure of it.

all i need is your data to further continue , having 75 v , have the flyback

replaced or extracted, then re-check again for output supply on the positive

    side of the diode.

    or

i might be needing output voltages when output transistor is connected and when

    un-connected,

this voltages will diagnose where is the fault on your unit, their might still be other

problem but we are not sure yet, till horizontal def circuits work .

have you looked closely if there is bulge capacitor/s?

you need to concentrate first on these two very important circuits that determine

    the status of your unit.

the symbol of the diode is almost like an arrow ( a direction)

wherever the arrow is pointed it is the positive side.

hope you have measure the voltage on it?, have someone to help you measure if you feel you are not comfortable measuring it, better yet solder 2 wires and measure voltages later if it is plugged.

or you can try having the unit rest for a while, while disconnecting all that is connected to it. for at least 10 minutes.and try it having plugged to a known good outlet

you might have also a shorted horizontal output transistor.

    or horizontal oscillator is blocked.

    There

might be still other causes, like changed valued

    Resistor

    capacitor:

    other Diodes ( like DL032 )

You have a bad flyback transformer. This is a common problem that eventually goes bad in the ITC 222 chassis. You have to get the model number with the code at the end of it after the /. And sometimes you must have the numbers from off the flyback itself. Try to contact MCM electronics for the flyback at 1-800-543-4330. First see if they can match it with the model number with the code after the /.

Most likely a bad flyback. It's a cheap part, but service people are even having a harder time getting ahold of one since they are failing often.

Possible short and safety is keeping the set from burning up. A service man should be able to find the short hopefully in a small amount of time.
