Question about Dishwashers

Open Question

KitchenAid Dishwasher streaking /residue

Our dishwasher has stainless steel interior. It is around 2 years old. I use Cascade and Jet Dry products. Dishwasher has started leaving glasses and silverware streaked and cloudy. Even the inside of the dishwasher itself is has a residue on it and is streaked. The silverware and door of the dishwasher has almost a rainbow effect residue - kinda like oil on water looks like. I tried running the dishwasher empty with a cup of bleach on top rack and a cup on bottom rack with no effect.

I have the same problem and it is also on my glassware. We do use jet dry and granular soap (only about 1/3 full).

    Thanks!

Same problem, new Bosch top of the line dishwasher - use granular soap and Jet Dry - tried an number of different settings on the dishwasher

We have a Bosch, streaking and cloudy glasses started about 6 months ago when Cascade changed their formula.

We have tried Costco brand, Cascade tablets and newer liquid Cascade. Same result.

Using cascade powder specifically for cleaning glasses from Ace Hardware is gradually returning to the clean situation.

SOURCE: streaks on glassware/silverware

usually indicative of clogged spray heads, or spray arms not spinning, too much detergent for your water type, wrong detergent, and low water temp.

Link to manual:

Check the manual for amounts of detergent to use based on your water hardness.

SOURCE: My dishwasher is not quite 2yrs. old and has

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa,

Based on your description I`d suspect a plugged wash pump.

The place to start for that is to pull the pump filter, spray arm and check for food deposit, broken glass, undesolved detergent and general water deposit built up in the sump well.

The key is to get in there and clean it all out, I`ve attached a link at the bottom that will show you how to go about it. It is not really referring to the heating issue, or maybe even your model, ( Most Whirlpool, Inglis, Kenmore, Kitchen-Aid, Jenn-Air ) but it is the same procedure.

When you`re finished run it through a test cycle and see how it goes.

Let me know how you make out and what you find.

SOURCE: my glassware is coming out cloudy! the dishes are

If you have hard water, glasses can look spotted and cloudy even after cleaning. Sometimes changing the dishwasher detergent can help. The easiest solution to clearing up glasses that start to look cloudy is to add some vinegar to the bottom of the dishwasher before you start a cycle. Simply add 1 cup of white vinegar and it will clear up your glasses very well.
You should see marked improvement after the first time you do this. If they are not crystal clear then simply repeat the process until all of the cloudiness is gone. In fact I recommend to using a little vinegar in each cycle to maintain the clarity of the glass.

Note: you can pre-test this by rubbing some vinegar on an individual glass with a cloth. If you cannot remove the cloudiness by soaking it and rubbing vinegar on it then it is possible that the glass is etched due to harsh or cheap dishwasher detergent and vinegar will not solve the problem.

The problem is hard water. www.dishwasherfilter.com has a product to solve this problem once and for all. It filters the water going into your dishwasher and removes the hard minerals that leave those spots. It is very affordable and even has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look with this product.

White film on dishes and interior

White streaking is caused by too much rinse agent. (jet dry) Most all dishwashers now have adjustable rinse agent dispensers, so you can set them to a lower setting when you have soft water, and a higher setting if you have harder water. The adjustment is generally right where you add the jet dry. Other possiblilities would be a leaking jet dry cap, or a defective jet dry dispenser.

Quit using the new Cascade. The formula change is what is causing the problem. No research from Cascade before releasing the product
