Question about Dell Inspiron B130 Notebook

Hardware I've got a Dell Inspiron B130, The dvd/cd drive is not working properly. It's like it does not recognize that drive. Cd's and dvd's won't play. Help...

    i have the same problem. I checked the device manager and have an exclamation point !. It says the driver is either corrupt or missing. I tried downloading the driver from dell and when i run it, it tells me that the drive cannot be recognized. the guy who owns the notebook bought a new drive after my suggestion that either the drive or the mainboard may be the problem. We installed the new drive and have the same problem. The disc spins but never works. still doesn't show up in My Computer. thoughts?

    I have the same problem. The interesting thing is, I had the problem 1 month ago, called Dell, and they sent me a new DVD/CD drive to insert. I did that and it worked fine for a few weeks. Now I'm having the same problem.

    doesn't show up anywhere!!!! the cd/dvd drive it'll eject and i can hear it start to spin but nothing

This happened to me and i called a dell support guy and he fixed it!!!

This is what you do...

Start the Run Command Prompt

Type in "regedit" without the parrenthesis then click ok






Then find {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

The whole thing looks like this:

Then delete the upper and lower filters....


*** i found this in another forum, it was not written by me but it worked for me
**** Please note that this is a solution for this SPECIFIC problem, if you are having another problem dont use it!!

You DVD/CD and your hard drive are the two things in your computer with moving parts and they are usually what break first. Your problem is either broken hardware or something software related. If the problem is hardware then the solution is to get a replacement DVD/CD. If it's software it can take some work to figure out. The first step is this:

Click on Start->Control Panel and then double click on System. Click on the Hardware tab and then Device Manager. You should see an item labeled DVD/CD-ROM Drives. Is it there? If it is, are there any question marks or exclamation points next to it? If not, double click on it....a window should open. Does it say this device is operating normally or does it tell you something is wrong?

If everything looks OK you most likely have a hardware problem. Let me know what you find and I'll try to help more.

Optiarc 7580s dvd does not recognize any disk

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd restart your computer then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard

if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders







This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall your DVD/CD then reinstall the driver for this device

My dvd burner reads dvd's but will not burn them it reads and rites cd's I have no idea what the problem is but i could use some assistance my computer is a dell inspiron b130

The Inspiron B130 is an older (5 to 6 years) budget pc with an optical drive that can read and write CDs but can only read DVDs. So your problem is not really a problem but rather a limitation. I have no sound, the cd player does not work on my inspiron B130, help!!

Hi there! Try downloading this latest audio driver from Dell:

Run and install it the reboot your system.

Now, with the cd/dvd not working, go to start and click run... type regedit and delete the upper filter and lower filter from this pathfile:


Restart the machine and cd/dvd should work this time, otherwise, you may need to replace your cd/dvd rom drive.

My dell inspiron 1300/B130 will not load windows from the hard drive or from windows disks.thru the cd/drive Could there be a problem with the motherboard? I can load win 3.1 from my external A drive but...

Step 1 Check BIOS setting to make sure the CD is recognized by machine and is part of the Boot Order sequence. Preferably, the CD should be first in the boot order.

Step 2 Check CD cable connections to make sure they are tightly fitted into their sockets. Also make sure CD is plugged in and CD is getting power.

Step 3. Swap out cable ribbon. Sometimes these go bad. Hope this helps.

Won't recognize CD, it makes a lot of noise, like if is running but nothing happens. (Dell inspiron 1420 laptop)

U need to reinstall the driver for you cd/dvd rom drive u can do this by "Start right click computer select properties click hardware tab ,device manager then dvd/cd rom drive uninstall driver then click action tab check for hardware change i should be gone after this step go to the dell web site and download the correct driver for your cd/dvd from the web site here is the link this should fix the problem hope this helps

Dell b130 upgrade to new hard drive trying to boot of from cd-rom but wont..... need help

did you change the order in the bios setinbg?put the 1st device for boot to be the CD/DVD-rom not HARD drive, to get into bios try F2., ESC, ,F12 . and in the bios setup change the order put 1st boot device to be CD/DVD-rom, then try again to setup Windows.
