Depending what graphics is installed you will need a graphic card which supports dual output which is PCI express x16. Depending how good you need the graphics quality you can pick them up quite cheap. Cheers from Scott and plz vote

Is the acer as5517 series laptop using a pci express card for the internal wireeless card

The Acer, as with lots of other laptops uses a smaller, card interface called "Half Size Mini PCI". This is much smaller than the desktop specification PCI or PCI Express and is specific to laptop hardware.

I looked at a spare parts website to find you a part number and came up with this. Use this information to find a similar part based on your country.

Compatible Hardware: Aspire 5517 series (AS5517-5700, AS5517-5997)
Wireless Card details: Atheros AR5B95-H half size mini PCI wireless network card (Dual mode 802.11b/g)

No problem want to upgrade

There are lots of possibilities Rob. Endless, I would say. Looking at your specs you could spend up to $400 or $500 depending on what you want.

RAM - $50 to max out @ 4GB
Graphics - $100 to $200 for a good PCI-Express card w/512MB
Sound - $50 to $100 for a good 7.1 card
CPU - $100 for a Pentium Dual Core 2.7GHz with 800MHz FSB

These prices are from www.tigerdirect.com which would be a good place to start.

One thing to consider is the price of a new computer compared with an upgrade. Sometimes you are better off just getting a new one. Again, it depends on what you want...and can afford.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya.

Aspire t-180 4-pin power plug

Your aspire does not include a PCI-Express power connector... that's why you'll need to buy an adapter cable that transforms two other type of connectors (molex) available from your power supply into the one you need to feed power to your video card.

You may need a cable like this...

But in response to your Question, Yes you can As long as the Card is one of the Following 2 ) x PCI, 1 ( 1 ) x PCI Express x1, 1 ( 1 ) x PCI Express x16

Graphics card

Hi bob,

Is your onboard video busted? as i check your specs; you have these slots available in your motherboard

2 ( 2 ) x PCI ¦ 1 ( 1 ) x PCI Express x1 ¦ 1 ( 1 ) x PCI Express x16 ¦ 1 ( 0 ) x processor ¦ Memory

base from:
http://www.twenga.co.uk/specs-Aspire-T180-ACER-Desktop-PC-243132

so, you can go to your nearest computer shop and ask them for a videocard that uses PCI Express x16, if its for gaming then go for the higher specs, i can't assist you further with regard to the exact video card model though.
