Question about Mitsubishi Televison & Video

Open Question

I have a 72 inch mitsubishi rear projection tv that is about 8-10 years old. it doesn't show nearly as bright of a picture and the picture has black dead area at top and bottom with some colored lines at the borders. after on for awhile, the picture will roll and shutter and make the tv unavailable to watch until shut-off and cool down period. what could be wrong and is it worth fixing ? mark.

Mitsubishi TV 65 inch rear projection. WS 65809 I went thru the convergence ic chip replacement years ago. Love the TV. My problem now is that the brightness goes from full bright to full dim then...

The old Mitsubishi units had a super capacitor in the logic circuit instead of a backup battery. This capacitor became leaky over time, causing the problem you describe among others. Number one symptom is set has audio and dark or black picture when powered up. As the super cap charges to full voltage, picture comes and goes.

I have a sony 50 in rear projection. 9 years old

Sounds like the CRT tubes are going out which is fairly common on Sony. Inside the back of the TV there are 6 knobs - 2 for each is for focus - dont touch - the other for brightness...turn down the brightness just a hair untill the lines go away.

Dull almost Foggy picture.

you need to take the screws out from around the screen in the back, on edges, go to the front and take the screws out from the bottom of the screen, should be 4 or 6 in the front, pick up on the screen and lift off, only about 8 pounds, now clean the little mirror in front of the projector, and clean the dust off the projector lence, that will solve it, iv had to do this on about 50 of thease tv's
