When I turn on my computer it beaps loudly three times and the screen doesn't come on...the computer does, and I can hear windows come up. And, from time to time it will come up out of the blue so it doesn't seem like the screen is permanently burned out...it is almost like the computer is in sleep mode, but not sure how to get it out

Computer does not boot up The problem maybe the RAM, it could be faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact. Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you. Just like you sometimes need a mechanic to repair your car, sometimes you do need a technician to diagnose and identify the fault or faults on your computer. Not only does a good service technican have the experience to deal with this type of problem, they also have the equipment that allows them to look at things the average computer user can't see, and he has a collection of replacement parts that can be used to quickly test individual components on your computer.
sounds like a memory or fan problem blow out computer check fan connections remove ram and try new ram if you get stuck give me a yell i will walk you through it...
The responses here miss the issue: The beeps described by the Poster are NORMAL and signal a finished load. However, the beeps are very loud, persistent, and extremely annoying, therefore the Poster wants to DISABLE the beeps. The question is how to disable the annoying beeps.

However, take out the battery from the laptop and remove mains lead. Go and make tea! Then, drink it. Once you have complete this task.
Plug in the AC lead ONLY into the laptop and then try to power it on.
You should see lights on the Hard Disk LED or hear a beep. If you see them but nothing on the screen at all when booting then the capacitor pack has probably gone on the screen. This is not an expensive part, but you do need to know what you are doing to replace it. Think it time to give it to the workshop or ask IT bod to look at it for you.
3 beeps POST code (power on self test) means RAM problem.
Reseat the RAM module/s and boot up your computer.
If you have two RAM modules, remove them both and insert one at a time to test them, to determine which module is faulty.
If it still doesn't work then replace the RAM module/s
