Question about Canon Powershot A1000IS Digital Camera

Open Question

Our canon powershot a1000is is no longer being recognized by windows. All of the ports work with other memory, but no longer with this camera. We also own a digital rebel and are having no problems with windows recognizing that camera.

Did you recently get a new SD card? My computer doesn't recognize the newer high speed cards. If you know someone with a newer computer, you may try hooking up to theirs. If you're using a USB cable, the computer should recognize the camera, new SD card or not. It could be that the USB cable is bad.

Vista is your problem. Solution...buy an inexpensive card reader to download your pics to a folder you create on your desktop. From there, you can send the pics to your photo editing software.

SOURCE: Computer Not Recognizing Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Elph A

Depending on your OS, you can download the latest driver for your system directly from Canon here. Remember to select your OS in the dropdown tab to be able to see the available downloads.

But I'd also recommend that you take this as an opportunity to consider utilizing a much safer method of downloading your pictures and videos. Please see this link, as it describes the use of a USB card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. Note that card readers are also VERY inexpensive these days (some places less than $2 online with shipping).

Simple fix...use a separate card reader to download to a folder you create on your desktop. Once there, you can move them to iphoto.

Window Vista not recognizing my Canon Power Shot A540 to download

I recommend getting a USB card reader for your memory card.

You should make sure that the camera is on for the transfer. If that doesn't work, try another USB input.

Windows Vista does not recognize my PowerShot A1000IS to download photos. What do I need to install?

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

I have a Canon Power Shot A1000 IS camera (1yr.old) I was able to import pictures from the Canon to my computer with USB connection but I can not doeing it any more. My computer has got 4GB memory 1TB...

Every windows update changes the registry and sometimes causes our "toys" to stop being recognized. It happens to all of us. Pros avoid the problem by using card readers....you should too. 19e4d33.jpg

My PowerShot A1000IS won't turn on

Unfortunately, it sounds like your warranty expired two months ago. Things to check first are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Details on what needs to be checked may be seen here. These techniques won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

Windows won't recognise my cannon Powershot 1000IS

Have you downloaded the most recent software from Canon at their website? Sometimes the old software programs get wonky & can cause this issue. Canon is a great company with wonderful customer service, no matter how old or how pricy your camera/printer/etc. is. If nothing helps with the new software download, try contacting them through e-mail or phone & they'll get you back on track!
