    Wellllll,,
I ended up taking it apart, checked compression, it had 85 psi compression,, took it down to my son at the repair shop, told him what was goin on, he kitted the carb, and put slots in the tuning screws. The diaphram was stiff, so figured that what it was. I put it together and it took awhile to get started,, but finally fired, had to turn the high screw out about 1/4 turn. Runs good now. Found out their made by Homelite... who'da thunkit,, thanks for your help..

Nope, it's not the carb. The plug is wet and probably black as well. Wet plug and lots of smoke means too much oil in the mix which is where the problem lies. Get a compression tester and look at the pressure reading; anything less than 90psi means the piston ring is stuck and needs to be replaced/cleaned.

Wow, I'm glad to hear you got it. Also surprised to hear it needed a carb adjustment! In all my time working on these things this is the first time hearing it was a carburetor! Just proves you never stop learning!

Looks like oil and fuel is leaking or blowing from exhaust.

John - Husqvarna makes really good power equipment that seldom offers trouble. The unit you are talking about is a 2 cycle system, meaning you mix oil and gas together in lieu of having an oil sump at the bottom of the engine like 4 cycle motors have. First question, did you mix a bottle of One Mix 2 cycle oil to a gallon of regular gas to start off using your machine? If you did, then I would think your unit is badly flooded, which happens a lot with 2 cycle equipment. Try taking out the spark plug and see if the spark plug looks wet from too much fuel. If it is, leave the spark plug out for a day or so to allow the cylinder head to vent the gas fumes. Replace the wet spark plug with a new one and try to start the unit again. Here's a tip: If you do flood a 2 cycle piece of equipment (trimmer, chainsaw, blower, etc.) again, make sure the choke is off and hold the throttle trigger wide open. Pull the started cord several times until the unit starts to run. Keep holding the throttle wide open until it clears itself out. Remember, you run the equipment, it does not run you :-)

What is the right fuel oil mixture???

ok im not a mind reader ,,,so what chain saw is it???? il have a go at this one,,,,,
most chain saws take a 50 to 1 mix if there not very old,,,but thats not all of them,,,ok?
some run on 40 to 1 mix,,,,old chain saws run on 25 or 30 to 1 mix? and very old saws run on 10 to 1 mix,,,,now you see you did not help me not telling me which saw you have,,, did you?
if its a new saw to be safe run it on 40 to 1 oil mix its a two strok so if there is a little smoke then its getrting oil to the bearings so it wont seze up?

Saw runs fine for about 15 minutes, then the idle speeds up,then it dies, almost like it is flooding

Do aclean or overhaul of all fuel components.Change the spark plug or the coil aka=spark plug cable. But if your saw in lees the 2 yrs you need to follow the starting guide in order to avoid flooding.

If you need more help come back.Post / thumbs / testimonial are welcome!

Fuel mix

Quick check with mfg (DAGS mcculloch) yields: 40:1 with their 2-stroke oil and 87 octane.
I've run one (with 14" bar) for years on same 50:1 mix I use in other saws with no problems- synthetic oil and regular gas. One of these saws is now 30 yrs.old. And ... no smoke-cloud, nor port/muffler mung.
With new saw, you might want to use more oil for first few hours. Just remember that doing so leans the fuel mixture.

Having problems starting Makita strimmer. There is quite a lot of smoke coming out and then it stops. Have looked at spark plug -clean, and cleaned air filter. Could the problem be the petrol and oil mix.

Use 50:1 gas/oil with a GOOD QUALITY 2-cycle low-ash synthetic oil.

Remove the muffler and check the spark arrestor isn't partially blocked.

With a clear muffler, and the mix as described, there will be hardly any smoke at all.
