Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-21CL10 21" TV

Sony KV-28CL10U TV

Hello Everyone!!

I have a problem with my Sony KV-28CL10U flatscreen TV.
The problem is only with the picture there is no problem with the sound..
When I switch it on the picture is ok.
After a couple of seconds the picture goes to black and the standby LED starts blinking. Also when I have picture and I slightly hit the box of the tv then the picture start vibrating between no picture and some of the picture. It seems like there is a contact problem somewher at the horizontal control of the beam because when I hit it the picture is vibrating and the beam very often draws a horizontal line on the screen.

It seems like it is a contact error somewhere...
But if so then Idon't know why the picture goes away (simple black) sometimes...

I need for your help!!!

If anyone has any idea about what I should do than please let me know about it!!!!!

Many Thanks,
Andy

    Hello!!!

There is a mistake in the description of my problem:

"It seems like there is a contact problem somewher at the horizontal control of the beam because when I hit it the picture is vibrating and the beam very often draws a !!!!!! horizontal !!!!!!! line on the screen."

I wanted to say: !!! vertical !!! line on the screen...

So this is the why I think there is something problem with the horizontal control...

    Thanks,

    Andy

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.
Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device, in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts

There are two things that commonly cause the fault that you are describing. Below is the main one.

It is very possible that the degaussing circuit or the degaussing coil is no longer working. A common fault is that the degaussing thermosistor has gone defective and the CRT has become magnetized. The earth's magnetic field along with other environmental things cause the CRT's internal mask to become magnetized over time.

The thermosistor in most Sony TV sets is located in the power supply area. It looks like a little black square box with 3 solder posts on it. In some models it has 2 solder posts. After a number of years this part may fail.

When the power is first turned on, the thermosistor is very conductive. After it heats up, it goes very high in resistance. It drives a high decaying AC mains current through the degausing coil (located around the shroud of the CRT assy) for about 50 to 60 ms. It then allows the current to decay to zero over the next 50 ms. When you turn on the TV set, you normaly hear a kind of a loud thump noise. This is the degaussing action.

Once the degausser is serviced and is working properly, it may take a number of power cycles to eventualy demagnetize the CRT. After shutting off the TV, it takes about 20 minutes before the degausser can work again. The thremosistor needs some time to cool down.

If you are not experience and trained for doing TV service, I would suggest you give the set out to an experienced TV service tech to change this part. There are serious safety issues when working inside of TV sets.

It is possible to purchase a manual hand held degaussing coil. There is a proper procedure for using this type of coil. If you were to manualy degausse your CRT, you would have to do it on an almost daily basis. The manual degaussing coil is fairly expensive to purchase. It would be better to service the set.

--

The second thing that causes the CRT to show colour purity problems (color splotches, or circles, or patches), is that the mask inside on the face of the tube has become dislodged off its supports or became warped. This can happen if the set has been dropped, or hit hard enough to do some damage to the mask. I have seen this where TV sets were roughly handled during moving them.

The only fix for a damaged CRT mask is to replace the CRT. The cost would be as much or more than the set is worth. This is if you can even find a replacement CRT. Most all of the manufactures no longer manufacture replacement CRT's for consumer products.

Only specialized CRT's are still being produced on a limited bases for specific industrial and military equipment that must still be kept in service. These are for some types of radar, medical, aerospace, and other related industries.

SOURCE: Standby/Timer LED blinking

These unit are famous for the PCB Print to be cracked around the HV Circuit and or the Horizontal Drive Transformer pins needing to be resoldered. It can turn into a very Major repair if the HV Components short. In that case the Power Supply will also short out.
Hope this helps

Check the speaker/s first. If found OK; check and replace the damaged component/s at its audio output section circuit board. If needy, replace this board as card basis. No Display, no sound- not working, showing dead. But input Power is ok. Picture tube filamment not getting power. model sony KV-2192M3

Hello
Check the input fuse first. If it is blown, there will be some short inside the power regulator circuit. Usually Sony sets uses STR regulated power supply. You can see this STR, and Ic, screwed onto a heatsink. Replace it with a same type and number. Before replacing the STR, check the diodes used in that section for damage, mainlu zener diodes. They might get shorted along the blowing of the STR. Check that section throughly before resoldering the new STR.
If any further assistance you needs, get me through Fixya. Ok.

Hello MLD110368
I think, TV screen has white-balance failure thats why TV light blinks 5 times.
While living in Pakistan, I can't fix your TV there. In my point of view, it doesn't cost much and you should contact nearest Sony repair shop.
