Either the system is overheated, turned up too loud or too much bass, or speaker wires are touching

What does the "protect" message mean on my samsung

It means DANGER.

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as a possible root cause for intermittent shutdown.

Only the low setting works for a little while. heat stops but fans will still run.If i turn up higher nothing, not even the fan. Heater has been cleaned and has a new thermostat swicth. Any help wuold be...

Two things come to mind here, one is the over heat protection is tripped and preventing the element from coming on, second is a bad high heat element. You can ring these out with a volt ohm meter and check both, the element if good rings out as a dead short, the over heat protection should be normally closed which means it to rings out as dead short. If it rings out open then it is tripped. some of these can be reset and most only need to be replaced. So check these items out and good luck.

Fan runs for awhile, shuts off by itself, then comes back on. This problem keeps reaccuring.

that normally means that the fan motor is getting hot .. there is a thermal protective switch on some fans and on all heater/fans ... some protective switch designs allow the switch to reset when the motor has cooled. that allows the fan to come back on but if the problem is not resolved then it just gets too hot again .. in the case of a space heater then low or blocked air flow will overheat the heating elements .. that will likewise trip the thermal switch .. if you have just a fan (not a heater/fan) then chances are the motor needs oil in its bearings .. check to see if it spins freely .. if not than lub with a good light weight oil like sewing machine oil .. dont use oil containing teflon or other such additives .. that is only for bigger motors and will cause very slow start up in small motors .. make sure there is no dust stopping air flow thru the motor ..you can blow that out with canned air from any hardware ..

most of the receivers come with a cooling fan inside see if its working they usually work when you turn the volume up,, if its working that means you are playing it to loud if you lower the volume a little it will play just fine..( if the fan inside is not working thats the reason it goes into protect mode and it means you must have it repaired,, it goes into protect mode to prevent furter damage to the unit or the speakers,,

protection error message means that your unit's fan is not working

it is a feature to keep your unit from overheating

check if there is anything blocking the fan of your unit from rotation or replace the fan

Amp on "protect" mode

Hi, what you need to do is unplug all the connections to the amp. The amp goes into protection when the circuitry over heats.\
First decrease all your gains to minimal volume.
Connect your 12+V, remote, and ground.
See if the protection light comes on then.
Next plug in your RCA cables.
Check protection light.
Then plug in your subwoofer cables.
See if you are still in protect mode.
Hopefully everything works alright again.
Just slowly increase the gain to see what the cut-off is. Make sure you aren't dropping the ohmage too low on the amplifier. Check manual for correct wiring and such.

It is possible that either the heat sensor or the protection circuitry has a problem. The protection circuits will always err on the side of caution. If the fan is good, I'd be looking for the sensor. Can you update this with the model number please? I can check for more details once I have that info.
Thanks,
Dan

This is a common problem with sony it means unplug me or i will explode, it is a protection of the heat sync and usually means that a cooling fan has shorted out.
