Question about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router

Cooked router..!!! Netgear

I have a netgear wgr614v5 router, I entered details for WEP but the computer crashed at that time. Since then I cannot get the router to have the wifi light enabled. I have reverted back to cable modem on the main computer, but am unable to use the wireless facility, up to that point the router has been 95% reliable. Have I 'cooked' the router..? I have tried resets for 10 seconds and 60 seconds pulling the power cable out etc. Please help I have 2 girls absolutely climbing the walls because they can't use their laptops. p.S. if they had threatened to leave home I wouldn't have bothered you. Rgds, Lucifer.

Re: Cooked router..!!! Netgear

You have to get back into your wireless bios and inable the wireless somehow it got disabled Just type in into the address bar on your Internet explorer to get in you settings and you will see the wireless tab click on that and make sure it is on and enabled Also you want to make sure all the computers on that router are all in the same workgroup. Is your computer recognizing the router at all. There is a little pin hole I believe its in the back you have to push and hold that button, a pen is what I use. to reset it. If that still don't help let me know here ok. let me know if any of the computers are seeing the router and what happend when this happend in better detail. You may have to go into the router and get the 26digit wep code and enter it into each wireless computer, I think when you enable wep it makes it so you have to enter the Code on any computer that hooks to your router, Hey I sure hope this helps and let me know if I can help you anymore Happy Holidays

My son has just bought a Xbox 360 kinect and he wants to sign up for the online Xbox live and we are unable to get the WEP key in order to connect. We are using the Netgear but have tried,...

What you are entering are IP addresses, these are not the WEP encryption key.
The XBox needs the Netgear WEP encryption key, this is in the Netgear wireless settings.
To get this encryption key connect a LAN cable from a computer's LAN port to the Netgear, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL
The default login = admin
The default PW = password
You can now go into the wireless settings - you can view the WEP encryption key

To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

I have a netgear WNR1000 and my xbox live doesnt work

Using Xbox Live with NETGEAR Routers Problem: var js_3;function initPsDisplay(){js_3 = new PsDisplay({"info":{"controller_name":"PsDisplay","name":"PsDisplay_3","type":"FormField","w_id":3},"attrs":{"label":"","tabindex":"","field_name":"description","cf_id":"","table":"answers","highlight":0},"js":null});js_3.init();}YAHOO.util.Event.onDOMReady(initPsDisplay);
Workaround: var js_4;function initPsDisplay(){js_4 = new PsDisplay({"info":{"controller_name":"PsDisplay","name":"PsDisplay_4","type":"FormField","w_id":4},"attrs":{"label":"","tabindex":"","field_name":"solution","cf_id":"","table":"answers","highlight":0},"js":null});js_4.init();}YAHOO.util.Event.onDOMReady(initPsDisplay); NETGEAR has Xbox certified routers!
Note that the listed, certified firmware may no longer be available; later firmware is likely to work, but is not certified unless listed.

There is no information on what will be certified in the future. But if an existing model does not appear on the product dropdown on NETGEAR Home Page, then it will not be certified.

I need the netkey or webkey for my wgr614v8 netgear router. I can't connect to the internet from my laptop. It keeps asking for my netkey.

You need to connect to the web interface of the router from a PC, using a standard ethernet cable.

You then set the Wireless encryption (WEP key or WPA passphrase) in the Netgear router. Goto to find the manual for your router if you don't have one.

You then have to set the same WEP key or WPA value in the laptop computer.

I dunno ow to secure my connection with my edimax router

You can read more about WEP and WPA in the following links:
This article explains how to configure WEP/WPA-PSK/Access list on NETGEAR Wireless router (also applicable to access points).
  • You can configure WEP or WPA. But you cannot enable both at the same time.
  • You can configure Access list and also enable WEP or WPA for additional security.
  • After you enable wireless security features on the router (or access point), you must configure your wireless clients (wireless computers) with matching settings. Your wireless clients will not be able to connect unless you configure matching settings.
  • Its recommended you enable these wireless security settings from a computer wired to the router (or access point).
Configuring WEP:
  1. Connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the NETGEAR router.
  2. Open an Internet explorer and type the router IP address which would be either or (by default, refer to your product documentation ti determine the default IP address.) in the address bar and press Enter.
The Login window will be prompting for a Username and Password. The default Username is admin and the default Password is password
  3. Click Wireless Settings under Setup menu. n101675_image001.jpg
  4. Under Security Options, Select WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)
  5. Select Authentication type as Automatic and Encryption Strength as 64-bit (or 128-bit) - You must later configure your wireless computers with the same setting.
  6. Select Key 1 and enter any 10 hexadecimal digits - any combination of 0-9, A-F (26 digits if you selected 128-bit as the encryption strength) and Apply the settings. Please note down these values - You must later configure your wireless computers with the same setting.
