Question about Sunbeam 2366 MixMaster Series Hand/Stand Mixer

Wooden spoon killed the motor!

I have only had this thing a month, maybe. I was mixing some pumpkin bread and the tip of the wooden spoon got in the beaters and it was deader than a doornail. Froze up instantly. Then you could smell the burnt motor and see a little smoke come out from the motor compartment. I have to say this is the first time I have had a motor burn out over that. I have lost wooden spoons to the mixer, but never a mixer to the wooden spoon. Mixer is dead.

These mixers use an electronic triac(to vary the speed of the mixer) of such low amperage that they run hot normally(to wear OUT), and they don't fuse the units electronics or motor anymore so anything that binds them will short out the triac or motor winding(from heat) and make them inoperable, try and order(what they call) an internal electronic part from these companies and good luck, I tried for 3 months and told them what I needed, they agreed this part was defective, but they wont sell you an internal part(LIABILITY ISSUE) unless your a "company certified technician" go figure, I finally got one through N.T.E.semi-conductors. and my customers HAPPY NOW!!!

Take a wooden spoon handle and tap up towards the mixer on the bottom of the paddle... then when it moves up about a quarter inch turn it counter clockwise to remove it...tapping at the top while trying to turn it may help...
Then before using again, place a small amount of Vaseline or other petroleum jelly on the shaft to lube it and make removal easier the next time...

It sounds like you have a stripped gear. I, too, had this problem when my bride dropped a wooden spoon into the bowl. You'll need to disassemble the mixer and determine the part(s) that need to be replaced. With a google search for parts for your model, you can not only locate the exact part, but can also get exploded diagrams for your model. Very handy indeed for disassembly/reassembly. I'd get the diagrams first and then determine the parts needed.

Hope that this helps you.

There are lots of places to be looking, first thing I would look at would be under the rear cover to make sure the two nuts that hold the rear motor bearing housing in place are nipped up. You don't wring the neck on these nuts, if you over tighten them you will deform the rear bearing housing.
If you can find someone local who has been doing these mixers for a while they will be able to give it a once over. It's unlikely to be expensive. Best people to ask is Kitchen Aid, they should know who does their warranty work in your area. If you are in new Zealand it will be me.

My mixer just started smoking while i was mix some

Your mixer may still be good, let it cool down and then check it out, If it runs OK then there is no problem. The motor in your mixer probably over heated from trying to mix bread dough which will make any mixer work hard. These mixers will get warm when over worked but unless heavy smoke was coming out and you were getting a burning enamel smell it is probably OK. Let it cool and try it but I suggest you not use it for bread any more.

Used the bread kneading hook, after 10 minutes, smoking

The mixer motor has probably overheated, as proper use and care was not being followed with the stand mixer.

Bread doughs are recommended to be mixed on speed 2 only and never for longer than 7 minutes. With the resistance of a bread dough that is provided against the beater, mixing for over 7 minutes may overheat mixer and cause smoking.

Please consult your use and care guide to refresh your memory about how to properly use your mixer for making bread doughs.

Mixer beaters clanging together

The beaters might be fixable/replaceable but the bowl not spinning anymore is the more serious of the 2 problems. If this is several years old iit probably is more cost efective/simpler to replace the whole unit.

Good luck Loringh

Stripped beater gear

It is terminal. This is the fatal design flaw of these mixers. The gears are made of soft plastic and strip easily. Even the gear housing is plastic that is either glued or melted together to make it unserviceable. I have never suceeded in finding the part from either Sunbeam or one of the many appliance repair places on the web (who charge the cost of a new mixer for repair). Sunbeam does not repair them; if it is determined to have malfunctioned due to quality or design while under warranty, it is simply replaced with a new one. I had mine replaced under warranty twice, each time they sent me a new one complete with extra bowls and beaters. Now I have three sets of bowls and beaters and no functioning mixer.
