Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

We just bought a brand new Luxaire 95.5% efficiency gas furnace. The ductwork, electric, and everything you could possibly need for a furnace is new. The blower door is sealed and there are no vents and I noticed when the burners go to light the door pops out a bit and it sounds like a bang noise and you can hear the burners shut off and then the furnace will run another 10-15 seconds and then the burners will light succesfully. This only does it every once in a while but this morning it was a loud bang noise and I thought I would research this and I came across alot of things about delayed ignition. What do you think this could be???

Gas build up and delayed ignitionYou may need a fan in your exhaust vent/stack. They are called power vents .The com in a tube the same size as your exhaust and need to be wirred for turn on whenthe heater is turned on. It is dangeroous in this state/setup. Consult with your installer. Good Luck and be safe._Ned_

The modal number and serial # for my furnace is MODEL # F+RPQ24HQ6A SERIAL # EEGS13264Q OUR FURNACE IS IN A METAL BOX AND WE CANT SEE THE BRAND NAME IS WE JUST BOUGHT THIS HOUSE BACK IN DECEMBER 2016

That's an older YORK product. The serial numbers are all coded by the alphabet. York or Luxaire parts house can help you. Probably about a 1980's unit. Hope this helps!

I am new homeowner of 60+ small ranch 1,000 sq ft. Home has 2010 Goodman gas furnace set into existing ductwork previously used for coal/wood furnace. Blows hot air into 2 cold air returns. HVAC man...

Look closely at the ductwork; determine which is your returns and which is your supply, and also check for" old baffles "that may be diverting your supply air into a return.
On the outside of the duck work you will see a wingnut or some have small handles that indicate the placement of the baffle and in the direction it is facing (vertical) will mean it shut off (horizontal) will mean that it is letting air pass through. If they're working properly and not loose.
It sounds like they had the old furnaces Duck work is in a loop for part of the home to recirculate the air that was heated .
that would be my guess without looking at it .
I hope this helps you, look in the right direction it's definitely duck work that is causing your problem.
Also get Mastick and UL ratedtape from your local hardware store to patch holes and cracks Old ductwork.
that will help You with the efficiency of your furnace.

Why does furnace heat cut back?

You might try checking your return filter. The new filters (pleated 3 month, ie real expensive ones) cut back your air flow 35% from the amount the regular 30 throw away allow. When air flow reduces the temperatur from furnace increases and can cause inadvertant high temperature limits to trip. If you are using a clean return filter, next you need to physically observe the air inlet side of your cooling coil to see if it is blocking air flow due to being dirty. If you have trouble with seeing the inlet, you might need to get a professional to take the air handler apart.

I have an older Luxaire furnace: Model # GSU137FF Serial # NAJTE Input 137000BTU out 110000Btu Natural GAS. What is age of unit, are parts available, whats is its efficiency rating. Should I fix or...

Your effeciency rating is 80%. Divide your output capacity 110,000 by your input capacity 137,000 and that will give you your effeciency.
The manufacture date is usually in the serial number.
You need to go to Luxaire.com and they can answer that question for you.
As far as parts there be parts available.
Fix or replace, if you are happy with the equipment and not really having a lot of problems, you may want to keep it. The newer equipment is more efficient, so if you think your gas bill is to high or you want to save some money on your gas bill, you may want to replace it.

Hi, I have a Carrier Weathermaster XS. I don't

If I am correct, that is a gas furnace, right? I believe it may be between 15 and 20 years. Pro-active with and older gas furnace is never a bad thing. First of all it can become a safety issue, as concerns of heat exchangers cracking and leaking carbon monoxide into the home become increasing. Second, it sure only be 80% efficient, whereas a new condensing furnace today can be up to 95% efficient. That means that you currently only use 80% of the gas you are burning as actual heat transferred into the house via airflow, and the other 20% is literally leaving the house through the flue. So you can increase efficiency dramatically and be safe at the same time by replacing pro-actively

Furnace filter is black and sooty wall seem to be sooty

By sealed unit you mean that the burner air comes from outside of the house?      You have checked the heat exchanger for cracks by removing the burners and looking with a mirror and flashlight, correct, or had a service tech so?
The furnace burners have enough air and are burning clean (blue) with just a tip of orange at the end? You bought the house new and the fireplace has never been used?  If it has been used to clean smoke for the house for whatwever reason I woudl start by havign the ducts cleaned.   Another possibility I have seen is insolation inside of ductwork breaking down.
