Are you sure you're not on what they call "LINE-VIDEO" in the menu to play VCR tapes, and your not on AIR/CABLE signal to receive outside signals? don't fret that happens

Screen is the color blue?

That isn't convergence that does that. There are "screen" trimmers, if someone has messed them up you can get all one color, but the usual cause is the picture tube going bad. The screen trimmers are on the PC board on the gun (narrow) end of the CRT. Some trimmers are color drive and others are color black level, or "screen". Don't adjust the color drives, it is a delicate balancing act to get them right. Find the one labelled blue and turn it down. If all you can get is too dark, turn the red and green up, just enough to see a dim color haze in a blank picture. Balance them out so the haze is gray. Then turn them all down just a hair so the screen is just black. Then try a picture. If you can't get gray on a blank screen then go to the high voltage transformer (the one that can kill you if you touch the wrong part) and adjust the "screen" control on its side up (it adjusts all the colors together). If you still can't get gray, one or more of the color guns is weak, and you may as well chuck it.
Of course it could also be a bad blue drive transistor, but fixing that takes more expertise than you can get from a forum.
Actually, just getting the TV open and propped up so it doesn't fall over is a job in itself...

My blue and green coloring is messed up on my Mitsubishi Medallion. I can't get it to have both colors normally, it has to almost be one or the other. Is this just a contrast issue, or something

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. The power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

What you will need to do is convergence. You can get a repair kit from TvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement parts, step by step instructions, support, etc.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from TvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement coolant, step by step instructions, support, etc.

Color

see if there is a "default" option, if not set everything back to the middle, if the colors are still off you sure its not the convergence?
most big screens allow you to change "color temperature" it's like a default adjustment for 3 different brightness levels.... ie...COOL, WARM picture will show obvious changes in brightness

G2 alignments?

Hello YankeeTwidgt,

Here we go you will need a schematic diagram (You may already have one but I thought I would mention it ), an oscilloscope, a TV signal generator (NTSC color bar, RGB purity screens, and pattern screen), and a voltmeter (I would prefer you have a VTVM, but a digital meter with high impedance (>=10M) will be ok).

First turn all of the color and tint controls completely down (This includes the main color and tint and the pre-amp color controls if you have access to them).

Then turn the RGB pots fully counterclockwise.

Once this is done connect the signal generator set to channel 3, and set to the specifications on the schematic, use the color bars, what you should see at this point are bars of various shades of gray.

Then turn the generator to the purity setting and set the pattern to red.

Once this is done your screen should be dark or dark red, gradually adjust the R pot until the screen is pure red and the voltages, and signals match what is seen in the schematic (mark this point on the pot and the return the pot to fully counterclockwise).

Do the same for the Blue and Green Controls (Blue first and then Green).

Once all of the pots are marked and turned to counterclockwise, set the pattern to gray purity, and turn the pots back up to their marked positions, the screen should be gray. switch to color bars and the screen should have the proper colors.

This is a course adjustment, and you will have to do a fine adjustment using the schematic, and the test tools, but this will put you way into the ball park.

The reason these pots are not talked about in gray scale adjustments is because they usually don't have to be touched. That's why it is important to get them back to specification using the voltmeter and oscilloscope to set the signals up properly.

I wish you success,

Hitachi 50 Rear Projection color TV

the easiest way is to turn the color all the way down to zero. Then notice the overall color of the screen, if it doesnt appear as a good black and white picture you will have to adjust the screens. To do that you have to remove the speaker grill cover and the small access panel, then depending on the chassis you will see a small square with 6 dials on it 3 on top and 3 on the bottom it will have screen stamped on it. adjust those 3 untill your screen appears the best black and white picture as possible. Now if your chassis only has 3 dials on the sgaure control box those are focusdont adjust them. . then the 3 CRT boards will have the dials you need adjust those for the best black and white picture. when your satisfied that you have a good black and white picture. then turn your color back up and adjust the tint.Let me know if you need more assistance.

Tv color messed up

There is the chance that the yoke has sliped and a purity adjustment is in order, since you would be dealing with voltages that could kill you if you don't know haw to do this the safest bet would be to take it to the shop

Blue, green, and red colors all off

I would suggest having a repair person come out to your place to fix this problem. I believe the convergence IC are going or have gone bad. I would estimate a $300 - $400 dollar repair bill.
