This could be 1 of many issues, usually the Steam pump (black or blue) is corroded and no longer vibrating correctly, the pump could be blocked, the pipe work after pump but before boiler could be blocked, the steam boiler could be blocked, the pipe work after steam boiler but before the steam tap could be blocked, the steam tap could be blocked, and also the milk nozzle could be blocked, if you feel competent to take it apart, it is easy to fix but if not take the machine to local service agent.
First, be sure to regularly push a straightened paper clip in that nozzle! It can get clogged with coffee grinds quite easily.
Then call Sunbeam and tell them you want the waste chute extender. It's a little plastic tube that fits over the nozzle to extend it further into the drip tray. Truth be told, you could probable push a 2cm piece of 3mm aquarium pump air tubing over it.
Generally, this is not a problem with the machine but with how you're loading the coffee! Sounds typical of one of these problems:-
Not enough coffee in the basket Coffee should be filled and tamped to about 3mm below the rim. Coffee grind not fine enough (too coarse)
Do you grind your own coffee or buy ready-ground? If buying ready-ground, make sure it is for espresso (fine) and not for filter or plunger.
If you have your own grinder, (like the Sunbeam Conical Grinder), then make sure the coffee hopper on top is securely connected to the grinder. I'd been using mine for years on the the finest grind (1) not realising the hopper wan't on right. Only discovered it when I took it apart to clean. Now my grinder is on 9-10 to grind for espresso. Coffee not tampered down hard enough
You do need to provide a reasonable degree of pressure to tamp the coffee down just right. Group head not turned tight enough
Push the group handle as far to the right as it will go, then ease it back just a fraction to have the right pressure.
Hi
Your burr is not locked in. You need to remove the beans from the hopper. Remove the hopper. Remove the burr. Turn the grinder upside down over the trash can. Put the burr back in only make sure that the burr is down. Install the bean hopper and when you turn the bean hopper it should move the burr. Then you can adjust your grind. Make sure that the grinder is running is your going to a finer grind or you could break the grinder. You can turn it to a coarse grind any time.
My local coffee specialist suggested a sunbeam conical cafe series grinder. He sells a lot of the Rancilio Sylvia machines and recommends the sunbeam to go with them. Retails at $219.
Just bought one and very pleased with it.
rotate the knob to try to get out the upper holder of burr. if it does not rotate than disasemble the knob and the gears(plastic big one is attached to upper holder of grinder, the other is together with knob.
tru to rotate it manualy, with help of extra srews puted in gear holder holes.
when you get it out, carefuly clean it, look for metal parts and stones(wich sometime comes with coffee)
turn on the grinder and attach gently one marker to lower burr during spining. after you stop grinder, look if it is perfect circle marked in burr. if it is not than marked side is higher. you should consider getting it ok by putting adhesive paper under lower burr and check it again.
There are a series of gears between the motor and the shaft. Replacement parts are avaialble ad cafeparts.com under ascaso ibertal grinders. You will need to take the grinder apart to find the problem.
