Kenmore Elite 90 Series overflows

I have the model # 110.28922790 and no matter what size load we have it on the water will not stop running, it just overflows. We have to manually turn the knob to stop the water flow. How do we fix this problem??

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.28922790

Click on the Control Panel category and see the "Switch, Water Level", Item # 2.

AND / OR Click on the Rear Panel category and see the "Water Inlet Valve" #26

See the following PDF on how Whirlpool / Kenmore top load direct drive washers work and testing procedures for the components.

Check for a faulty water level/pressure switch. This is a diaphragm like device with a small plastic tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level rises, so does the pressure on the air in the plastic tube and when it reaches a certain leve it activates the switch to shut off the water. Make sure there is no obstruction in the tube and that it is not damaged in any way. The switch can be tested using a multimeter or ohmmeter and checking continuity. A lack of continuity will mean a bad switch. Sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

How to fix a Kenmore 90 Series when the water keeps running?

Hello,

Their are 2 possibilites causing it to overflow

1) the water inlet valve that the hoses from the house plumbing attach to is sticking open, when it sticks it will stick open regardless if thier is power to the machine or not,so to determine if that is the problem, start the washer and quickly unplug it,if the water continues to fill, that valve is sticking

2) the water level switch is defective,do the same as far as starting it,if the fill stops when power disconected it's the water level switch that is in need of replacement

Good luck, i hope this will help you to fix your washer,
Gene

I have a Lady Kenmore series 90 washer that won't stop filling not matter what load size I put it on. It fills till it over flows and still keeps going. What can I do to fix this?

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.#######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

This sounds like a stuck water inlet valve problem:

See the following Whirlpool / Kenmore Service manual for top load, direct drive washers. It has a troubleshooting section as well at testing procedures:

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

Also see the following site for how to gain access to the console to test the valve:

Over running water fill

You have a bad water level selecter switch (Load size) you will need to replace. It's not hard, located inside the console and does not cost much.

Kenmore Series 90 top loading washing does not fill with water

Well you eliminated the fill valve when you said it does fill with water. More than likely its a bad connection on the control board. I wouldn't betmy paycheck on it but thats where I'd start. Take the cover off the control board and while machine is on being really careful wiggle each wire until the water starts in the tub and you have found the problem.

Washer water wont stop running and switch to wash. It overflowed

sounds like a bad water valve. Try disconnecting for a few minutes. If problem continues, the solenoid on the water valve is staying open which means the circuit is not opening. Replace valve.

your pressure switch may be bad or your hose that goes from your tub to your switch may be clogged with gunk
