Can't edit? From the above site...
SU-4 mode, a legacy, wireless, quasi-TTL mode for which
    the SB-800 is backward compatible.

What you'll need to do is load TWRP recovery up first, then flash Super Su from recovery, that is the issue your having as to why Super Su won't install binary. There is not much to explain with this one, Android Jelly bean is hard to crack.

When I access the menu by holding select to change to remote or SU-4 mode the flash crashes/freezes and I have to take the batteries out. Also when you go into SU-4 mode it lets out a beep sound and it...

Did you try to reset all settings as told in the manual on page 12?

Press the (mode) and (on/off) buttons simultaneously for
approx. 2 sec. to reset all settings, including the custom
settings (except the distance unit selected in m/ft) to
their default values.
If the problem stays, please check you finnished your repais correct. (nothing lose in the unit and no cables switched, no false connections)

Hotshoe and sync cable will not fire strobs. However, if I connect the sync cord via my SB800 the strobe will fire.... Help :D

What strobe are you using besides the SB800? Probably the best solution is to use a hotshoe extender for the mystery strobe (like an SC-15), and then set the SB800 in SU-4 mode (i.e. fire when any other strobe around it fires).
Sounds like the mystery strobe isn't triggering correctly with the sync signal that the body is giving through your adapter.

Synchronizing two sb-800s with a nikon d300

You knoq the SB-800 has a slave mode called SU-4 in the menu. It activates remote flash. When your on camera flash fires so will the slave flash. The slave flash will need to be able to "see" the light from the on-camrea flash to work.

To access the SU-4 remote mode hold the "SEL" button in for a few seconds until the menu appears. Scroll down to the SU-4 setting and turn it on.

When using this method set the flash to manual and set the power as needed.

Regards.

SU-800 and SB-600 line of sight

Remember that the SU-800 works by sending out an infra red beam as the trigger pulse, when out doors available light can swamp the sensor on the side of the flash with too much light, therefore the flash cannot "see" the pulse from the SU-800.
Also if you refer to the manual, you will find nikon recommends working within approx 30 / 60  degree angle of the sensor, so if you were working behind the camera with the flash it would have had even more trouble.
As you found when you used your hand you strengthened the output beam for the flash to be able to pick up the pulsed output beam. You may need to create some kind of hood, to place in front of the SU-800 to direct the beam in the direction you need it to work.
Hope this helps  Ian

SB800 firing but not syncing??

I had that same problem with the SB600 and the SB 800. Solutions; get a new one. After about a year of usage the sb600 started giving me that problem. It flashes but it does not sync. It still works as a remote unit, but not mounted on the camera. The SB800 just went to a coma last weekend. No sync at all, not even as remote unit, no strobe function, just a bright flash, when triggering the test button with new fresh batteries, it flashes at max power once and takes around 7 seconds to recycle. No multiple flashes at all. I had to buy a new one.
