Hotpoint fridge freezer freezer ok but fridge not working temp is always 21 degrees tried to set to 4 degrees but just keeps going to 21 freezer is fine -22 degrees

Merv -

Most manufacturer's fridges are designed for 34 degrees F in the fresh food compartment and 0 degrees F in the freezer compartment. Setting the fresh food compartment to a value lower than 32 degrees will freeze any moisture in foods, fruits and vegetables and freeze water in juices and other beverages resulting in broken containers, exploding cans, etc.

What you need is another freezer. Trying to convert a refrigerator into a freezer is going to be very difficult - especially without ruining it.

Good luck!

Amana abb1922few bottom freezer refrigerator freezes in the ref section freezer ok

Good day,
The air going to the fresh food compartment is controlled by a pneumatic damper which varies the amount of air going to the food compartment. Many times it pops the spring off that tries to keep the flap open. It is located at the top rear. Look here.

c7b1399.jpg
If it proves to check out ok. (I'd take it to an appliance parts house to let them see it,) it would be the control that regulates it's opening position.

Fridge won't cool or freeze. Expert on here thinks it might be defrost timer. Asked me to pull off base front panel. Where is this base front panel....Inside the fridge or inside the freezer? Or is it...

Good day,
If it is a fairly new machine, it is located in the fresh food compartment. Usually top front center, under the plastic housing that holds the controls.
It may be a timer, but as well, could be an adaptive control, which replaced timers on many newer models.
On somewhat older models it is a timer, and is located in the fresh food compartment, in the right rear in a housing that also contains the thermostat.

If there is frost building up on the rear panel in the freezer panel, your on the right track.
There is a hole where the shaft of the timer is exposed. With the machine running, using a screw driver, turn the timer shaft clockwise until the machine shuts off. Wait 35 minutes. If the machine comes back on, the timer is O.K.
If the newer style, then there might be no access hole, which means it has an adaptive solid state control. With the machine running, unplug. Turn the thermostat to the off position. wait at least 30 seconds, 45 is better. With the machine still off, plug back in. Wait a while,(20 minutes) and look at the bottom of the panel, in the rear of the freezer panel, to see if it's starting to defrost the coils. If so, replace the control. If not replace the control, and the limit thermostat located on the top of the evaporator behind the rear panel in the freezer compartment.
This only applies to a condition of the coils in the freezer compartment icing up.

Here is a good tutorial on defrost system function.

http://www.appliance411.com/faq/howdefrostworks.shtml

If no frost is on the coil in the freezer compartment, then other possibilities are...
1. Fan motor behind rear panel in freezer is not running. It's a nuts and bolts replacement.
2. The cooling fan motor in the back rear of the machine, behind the cover is bad, Again, a nuts and bolts replacement.
3. Finally, the compressor is not running or the system has developed a refrigerant leak. Problems best left to a trained technician
Hope this helps.

Fridge compartment is freezing food/milk etc

Sir, To solve this problem, you must open the compressor area at the back bottom of the refrigerator and chek the temperature of the pressure line. If the temperature is between 55celcius to 60 than its ok. Or else you need to change the refrigerant. I suggest you to contact the service authority.

Thanks for contacting Fixya.

Left door open while cleaning out refrigerator and top unit shut off freezer is still on what should I do

The fresh food compartment is cooled by air being blown from the freezer compartment into the fresh food compartment.

There is a panel, or door if you will, that separates the freezer and fresh food compartments. The freezer temp control determines how much cold air is allowed to escape into the fresh food compartment by opening or closing this panel.

In your case, the door must be stuck all the way open, allowing all the cold air to be diverted into the fresh food compartment. The compressor cycle is controlled by the thermostat in the fresh food compartment and thus 'short cycles' because the fresh food compartment acheives normal temperature while the freezer is relativel warm.

If the panel is restricted from moving (stuck in the extreme open position, for example), the fresh food compartment will get VERY cold while the freezer will be warm.

Try thoroughly defrosting the refrigerator. Possibly an accumulation of ice is preventing the panel from moving and/or is diverting all the cold air from the freezer into the fresh food compartment. It's a free fix and may solve your problem altogether.

If that doesn't help, or helps only temporarily, you may have a problem with panel/door/flap itself or the linkage that connects it to the control mechanism. Unless you're skilled in appliance repair, checking and repairing these components will require the help of a service technician

Hope this was helpful. Good Luck.

We have a ge side by side and the refrigerator is freesing stuff. the model number is GSS25X SNA BS

Is it all areas of the fresh food side that are freezing your items, or is it the drawer area?

There is a direct connection (on my GE side-by-side, at least) between the freezer compartment and the drawers in the fresh food compartment. The size of the connection is controlled with a wheel or a slider. This could contribute to freezing in that area of the fresh food compartment.

Otherwise, it could be the temp sensor(s) in the fresh food compartment. If the computer thinks the temp is too high in the fresh food compartment, it will continue to cool.

It could be a problem with the motorized door that connects the freezer compartment to the fresh food compartment, located at the top of the dividing wall between the compartment. That door should close when the temp in the fresh food compartment is cold enough. If that door mechanism has failed, is disconnected, or otherwise blocked in the open position, cold air from the freezer compartment will continue to circulate into the fresh food compartment.

Freezing in refrigerator

Inside the fresh food compartment on top left there is something called an air baffle. It runs between the freezer and fresh food compartment and its purpose is to electrically control the amount of cold air coming from the freezer. Sometimes they freeze open and will not close. So you may need to turn off the refrigerator during the time you examine it. Look for ice blocking the movement of the baffle damper. Sometimes just one time clearing the problem is all you need to fix it. Let me know what you find and if you are able to get it going again, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Top mounted freezer on refrigerator not working

Move the refrigerator to a room that is at least 50 degrees F.

Temps on most refrigerators are regulated by the fresh foods temp. If your garage is let's say 35 degrees, the fresh foods temp will most likely never raise enough to turn the refrigerator on. With the refrigerator never running, the freezer compartment will warm to 35 degrees, resulting in everything melting. Even if garage is a bit warmer, say 45, the refrig will not run long enough for the freezer to maintain a low enough temperture. If the garage temp falls to below freezing, say 20 degrees, the food in the fresh foods compartment will freeze. (outdoor beverage dispensers have internal heaters to prevent product from freezing !) Please don't rate this if not a Fix-Ya for you, as anything else lowers my score.
