Detach the vac itself from low voltage thin wiring leading to the house. With the vac plugged into power, try the manual switch and then try shorting across the low voltage exterior terminals with a rubber gripped set of pliers.
If you can hear a clicking inside, this is the vac's relay trying to start the motor. If the vac is more than 5 years old , or used more than 2 hours a week, you may need new carbon brushes, or a motor overhaul or replacement depending on wear. Carbon brushes are specific to the motor model # inside the vac, most often an AMTEK Lamb motor.
If you need brushes, the motors comutator should also be inspected for excess, wear, like gap ing between its conatct segments and "apple core" shaped wear
.
You you have a meter and can test for continuity across the motor leads, do so and post back.

If you don't have a meter, you will likely want to lift the vac off the wall after these checks and take to a repair shop, saving $$$$ for a house call...

I have a brand new KitchenAid mixer that is 5 years old and never used. I unpacked it this morning and it won't turn on, no noise, no movement, nothing. Help.

Please check manually the motor and see if it moves freely. Now make sure that the power plug and the connections to the switch are not tampered , check the continuity of the plug to the switch and to the motors.
If you notice any dirt or insects make sure that this has not clogged on the motor. If so clean using a degreasing spray- WD40- would be recommended.
If the motor is tight , lightly oil or degrease using the spray while manually rotating.
Once this is done connect the power while taking all precaution. Use the meter to check the flow of the circuit to the switch and to the motor. If there is a trip switch see that it is reset.
If there is power to the motor and still it does not work the brushes might be dirty and might need a cleaning/ reset.

Powerhead is working - but not sucking up. When I click to Floor nothing is coming on

When you say the powerhead is working, I assume you mean the light comes on and the rotating agitator brush turns when you switch the unit fully on.

Please clarify what part exactly does not come on and when?

Do you mean the primary vacuum motor in the large main section of the unit is not coming on?

If you take off steel pipe part off from the handle and hose, are you getting any suction at the handle opening when you switch it on?

Have you checked or changed the collection bag recently in case it is full?

I will be pleased to assist you further if you can provide some additional details regarding your problem.

You may wish to unplug the power cord to your unit first and then check all of the electrical wiring connections between the handle and the power head. There are a few male / female 2 prong connectors that carry electrical power to the head unit. They are nooriously prone to corrosion and poor electrical contact leading to various intermittent malfunctions.

Just take a screwdriver or some sandpaper and scrape off / remove any dirt or corrosion from the electrical contact prongs in the connectors and then reconnect them securely.

Just comment back here to this page if you have questions or require further assistance.

Please remember to click on the 4 Thumbs Up icon if this was at all helpful.

Thank you very much.

Kenmore canister model numer 26212690 12.0 amps with powermate. How do you remove the bottom part to check the belt. The blade won't turn and the switich is on rug not wood floor. There are two arrows that...

Hi There,

There are actually two screws that need to be removed before you can separate the bottom from the top housing. The screws are actually located either underneath of the headlight cover, or on the bottom of the machine. Since you've already turned the machine upside down to look at, I would imagine that the screws are going to be under neath the headlight cover.

I've done a repair on Fixya for this exact problem. Please visit the link to see pictures, and step by step instructions on how you can access the belt;
http://www.fixya.com/support/t4499227-need_replace_belt_in_kenmore_vacuum

There is also a reset button that you should try pushing on the top of the power nozzle, and if it's neither the belt or the reset switch, it's probably that your electric hose has gone bad, and can no longer bring electricity down to the power brush.

I hope this helps you, if you have any questions or would like some help on how to test the hose to check if it's bad, please just use the clarification request here on Fixya, and I'll be more then happy to walk you through it.

If you found this helpful, please rate my repair helpful by clicking the thumbs up icons in the top right hand corner. This helps other Fixya users find the repair solution easier, thanks so much.

The vacuum won't turn on. It"s an upright, and the power light on the on/off switch is lit, but no power to the unit below.

Check that you have power at the motor with a tester 0-200v .If you have it could be brushes or u/s motor. If not check power out from the switch ,if ok you you need to replace cables.

Please leave a positive feed back for me if this helps and get back to me if you need more help

Thankyou

Electrical to power head

Greetings from GoVacuum,

There could be a couple of reasons why you are not getting power to your power brush. The first and most popular reason is the hose of the machine. Sometimes the wires inside of the hose will go bad, causing the power not to get down to the power brush, but the rest of the vacuum working well.

You can test this hose easily. You will need to go out and purchase a continuity tester from Home Depot or Radio Shack. When the electrical test is in the continuity position, remove the hose from the canister, and put one of the testers on one of the electrical prongs that plugs into the canister itself, and put the other tester into socket where hose connects into the wand, you should have continuity on both terminals. It is important that the switch that controls the power brush is turned to the on position. If one of the terminals does not have continuity, you will need to replace the hose itself.

If both terminals have continuity, then you should then follow the same procedures on the electrical wand. If the wand tests ok as well, you may have a loose connection in the power brush.

Please let me know if none of these solutions work for you, I can then shoot a video showing you how to open the power brush to check for loose connections.

You do have a Miele S548, correct?

Please feel free to email me with any questions, I really enjoy sharing my knowledge of fixing and repairing vacuums, and would be delighted to answer any questions you might have.

Hello, I have an Electrolux Twin Clean EL7055A vacuum canister, and can't switch it on anymore. 1 Other User Has the Same Problem Comment by fayreid, posted on May 31, 2008 I have an Electrolux 6000 series that will not stay on, if you hold switch located inside canister down it stays on but once closed it will not. Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The problem you are describing sounds to me like you have a electrical hose problem where the wires on the inside of the electrical are bad and not creating a solid signal for the power. Or you may have a bad switch and both can be repaired but the electrical hose would be the more expensive of the two (2). You can check with your local vac dealer or contact the Electrolux website or factory phone # for further assistance. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Replacing a fraayed and twisted power cord on a Hoover windtunnel upright

ok so I took this vaccum apart completely except for the electrical and motor systems. It seems to me that without dismantling both of these systems on the vaccum you can't replace the power cord. And I wouldn't recommend taking them apart unless you know what you are doing since replacing the power cord seems to require cutting the old power cord and soldering the new one onto the old terminals. All in all its probably easier to get a new vaccum altogether.

it could be but i dont have enough info to really help. if the brush isnt working it could be power from the handle, it could be a bad motor, it could be even as simple as something is tangled up in the brush and that will stop it from turning but you can normally smell burning rubber when this happens from the belt slipping. please give me more information. so i may help. thank you james klgr
