The thermocouple is bad replace it it is the little rod that the pilot light heats as it burns to tell the unit it is on

The unit cycles through all levels and then displays Ignition failure, code B2. I replaced the flame sensor, the ignitor, and there is natural gas at the gas valve.

Sequence of operation for most Gas fired furnaces...
Demand for heat from t-stat
Control board demands combustion chamber purge
(IDM /induced draft motor if it has one)
Control board tests all safeties (this is usually via
the IDM wiring.)
Control board sends 24v to PV at the gas valve igniting
the pilot OR control board sends voltage to the
ignitor as in yours.
Control board sends 24v to MV at the gas valve.
Control board allows time for heat exchanger to warm
then calls for blower operation.

Your sequence of operation? Won't be the flame sensor unless ignion has been achieved. If the ignitor is working/glowing red? Is the IDM working? Make & model#?

I have a CGN 300TB natural gas heater, I can light the pilot and it stays lite until I turn the knob to increase the volume. I put a new thermocoupler on but didn't help. Any suggestions.

First make sure that 3/4" of the end of the thermocouple is engulfed within the pilot flame and that it is glowing red prior to releasing the button. This takes 30 to 45 seconds usually. The thermocouple generates a miniscule amount of electricity....like 1/4 of 1 volt...(250 millivolts tops).... and inside the gas valve is a saftey coil that requires that voltage to remain open electrically when you release the button which was bypassing the coil to allow pilot gas through. IF the thermocouple is not generating enough electricity, the coil will drop out....IF the coil is bad, the coil will drop out...and IF the coil is weak it will drop out. When the coil drops out, the pilot gas quits flowing and main gas cannot pass because in order for the main portion of the gas valve to open, the safety coil must be held open.

You probably either have a defective new thermocouple, dirty and small pilot light, or a totally defective or weak coil in the gas valve.

Payne 383KAV heater. Gas valve won't open to fire heater.

Being as how you changed the gas valve, make sure the arrow on the bottom of the gas valve is pointed towards the burner. Check for 24 volts at the common and main valve terminals on the gas valve when the thermostat is calling for heat...terminals MV and C. You will only have 24v there if the flame sensor senses flame... either pilot flame or main gas. You coud have 24v there without gas flowing or flame if is is a thermocouple standing pilot system and the gas valve is not in the 'on' position. But standing pilot systems usually do not have flame sensors.

With a flame sensor in the system, you have to have either spark ignition or glow coil ignition. If its spark ignition check for 24 volts at the pilot valve and common terminals on the gas valve WHILE the ignitor is sparking. That would be PV and C. The ignitor should spark and 24v should be on PV and C for 30 seconds to a full minute without ignition if it is a spark-to-pilot system.

If you have a glow coil, it will energize and burn bright orange for a minimum of 30 seconds BEFORE the main valve is energized. Then MV and C is only receiving 24v for approximately 5 to 6 seconds. This gives the flame sensor the time to prove the flame....if it does not prove flame, the system shuts down.

check for gas at pilot tube first . if there and pilot not lighting then pilot line or orifice is clogged. if pilot is lighting check for 24v to main gas valve terminals. if have voltage either you have a bad gas valve or carry over tube on rack is clogged . if older unit clean carry over tube reinstall and check for voltage and if lights if not then gas valve is bad

I have a pitco frialator and the pilot will light but when button is released after heating thermocouple, it just goes out. I've replaced the thermocouple but still the same. The pilot flame is in the...

Check if the unit receives the right amount of fuel as stated on its nameplate, if it does, check all wires for loose connections, Milli volt wont pass on loose wiring. If this does not correct the problem, you have to replace the gas valve, the main valve coil may be shorted that's why the pilot is shut when main valve is energized.

Not sure how to get the water heated. I've turned on the enterior switch and the switch on the back of the unit and tried to light the pilot but don't here any gas coming through at all.

OK this systems has a safety system and it will not let gas pass threw without the pilot light working correctly. first off near the pilot light there is a thermal coupling. this sends a signal to the main valve to open up. this thermal coupling need to get to a set temp. (hot) this is probably why you don't hear the gas. check if there is a manual bypass valve for maintenance. check if you can light the pilot rite away if you power the system on. it also has a time delay so the pilot won't give gas out if not fired on. sometimes there is a manual nozzle you have to press and hold till the gas pilot warms up the thermal coupling. hope i help some. thank you.

I have the Mr. Heater Big Buddy and it has been giving me trouble lately. After two years of flawless operation, the unit constantly shuts down, after only a few minutes of operation. I use a 20lb cylinder...

tough one doug, easy way is buy a new gas valve under red knob.
harder to try to fix old one.
the stopage of your mister heater is caused by the pilot lite going out
so what is causing the pilot lite to go out? that is the problem.

inspect the pilot lite and its gas supply tube all the way up to the main gas valve under the red knob control valve. unscrew the pilot lite gas supply line from the main gas control valve and clean out interior of gas supply line all the way through the pilot lite orfice to the open air. It must be totally clean, .like new, including the pilot
orface, in order to work properly.the least obstruction might deflect
or restrict the gas flow & cause poor or no opperation
.
when you unscrew the pilot lite gas supply line from the main gas valve, with a flashlight, look inside the hole, that the gas supply line was removed from.
It may be full of gunk that has to be removed for gas to flow properly. try blowing out with compressed air with a straw tipped blow gun. you may need carburator cleaner to loosen the gunk ,if gunk is present.
WARNING:::
If you use carb. cleaner, it burns like gasoline, so make sure any carb cleaner is blowed of with compressed air or blotted up with facial tissue & totally dried up & removed before firing up mr heater, in order not to catch mr. heater on fire.

If a lot of gunk is in the outlet of the main gas supply valve, you will
need a pocket screwdriver,a paper clip and maybe a sewing needle in order to pick out the crud.
It must be totally clean inside, like new, in order to have a chance at working.
It may still not work if more crud is inside the main gas control valve where you can not get to clean it out.

if you reach the point where you decide to buy a new main gas control valve, first try disassembling your old main gas control valve and cleaning it out, like rebuilding a carb, and reassembling it.
If this works, you dont need to buy a new main gas control valve
and have saved 30.00 plus 12.95 shipping
if it dont work, all it cost you was time & angervation.and you still need to buy a new main gas control valve.

Gas Furnace Will not light

Hi, normally when you turn the gas off at the flex line valve and leave it off for awhile, the gas has to clear the gas valve and lines up to the pilot. Purge its self of air before it will light again. It will take the electronic ignition several clicks and more before there is enough gas to light the pilot and then open the main gas valve to fire the burners. Tell me, what kind of gas furnace is this when you speak of water? you say the site glass was full and you had to drain it and then the ignitor kept on clicking when it normally only took one click to light it. Please let me know the style as in a split system, a package unit, all in one, or what you have. I will wait to hear back from you. If the pilot does not light right away, then yes let it continue to click and see if it will light. On a heater with the electronic ignition control module on it or a circuit board, this is what tells the pilot coil to energize to light the pilot. It will send power to the pilot coil to open and let gas through to light and same for the main gas valve, will get a signal to open when the pilot is on. It will not open unless the pilot is lite for saftey. I will wait for you're responce.

My Honeywell gas furnace won't fire up. The pilot is working , the fan will turn on if set to manual, but won't fire. I live in Canada and am freezing. thanks.

is this a power vented system if so check the ventr motor . it must run first alowing the gravity swtch to make and send 24v to the gas valve- if its not a vented unit sounds likely you have a main valy or posibly a mercury or thermo couple problem. hope this helps.
