The screen resolution is set by the operating system. If windows go to control panel/display/settings. If the onitor is working properly it should be recognized by the computer, if not you may need to install a driver for it.

SOURCE: 1440 x 900 resolution problem

Try reducing the refresh rate of the monitor to 60Hz as you would get 1440X900 only at that refresh rate.

SOURCE: Unable to detect 1440 x 900 resolution after change of cables

Try updating video drivers to be sure, but once you go over 3 meters, the video signal can degrade, causing a loss in the PnP signal to your monitor. Try setting the resolution manually.

Cannot change resolution on screen

Normally if you can't change the resolution to a level that is supported by your screen and video card your problem is going to be your drivers. Update your drivers and the situation should resolve.

You will need to reset your resolution. Right click on any part of the desktop and select properties. Choose the display tab. There will be a slider there move it one notch to the right, and click apply. Keep doing this until it is back to a comfortable viewing for you. Note if you click apply and your screen goes blank, just wait for 30 seconds, it will come back, then try another selection.

Resolution

You need to enter a lower resolution. The monitor you are on is incapable of using a resolution that high. If you cannot get back on you need to start in safemode. Then change the resolution to a lower one that your monitor can handle.
