It would probably be easier to just swap the hard drives. then when you go to boot, put in an OS install cd (Mac OS X ; Windows XP ; Windows Vista ; Windows 7) and it will walk you through the steps and partition your hard drive for you.

I have a dell 3000 dimension desk top computer. The message I get after tapping the F12 key is as follows. Key board failure. Type password and press enter to leave password security enabled next line

The motherboard BIOS is activated when you press the F12 Key and can be locked via a password that is different from your pc user account. There is only one way to reset this because the BIOS is a chip on the motherboard. You have to reset the password using a jumper on the motherboard that is marked with PSWD. This will also clear the CMOS which is Computer Memory on Startup which tells the computer the different changes from the original bios chip. so you may have to go in and set some settings in the bios to have everything back to operational.

Turn off and unplug the tower before opening it.

The password jumper's location on a Dell Dimension motherboard can be found by reviewing the Dimension User Guides.
For most Dell Dimension desktops, the steps to reset a BIOS password and clear all CMOS settings are:
  • Locate the 3-pin CMOS password reset jumper on the system board.
  • Remove the jumper plug from pins 1 and 2.
  • Place the jumper plug on pins 2 and 3 and wait approximately 5 seconds.
  • Replace the jumper plug on pins 1 and 2.
Now replace the panel and plug unit back in. You should be able to enter the bios without a password.

Dell dimension 3000 doesnt recognize cdrw drive

Drive might have gone bad possibly? Or power the PC down completely push the power button for about 1-2 seconds to discharge the PC then plug it back in and restart the computer. If this does not work and you still cannot see the device. Check the cables and make sure they have not come out or are loose. If this is not the problem then you may try downloading the driver file for it at Dell.com replace drive if necessary. John

Hello Mr. Expert I have a Dell Dimension 3000 desktop. I upgraded to bios to A03. Is it possible to upgrade to a higher version. Thanks,

Hi!

The A03 is for now the latest version for the BIOS of Dell Dimension 3000

And a tip for you: upgrading bios is only necessary when real issues occure and the computer doesn't work properly.

Please let me know if it helped

Best regards!

Carresearch, I just put the cd in and restarted the computer but the reinstallation didn't start. How do I reboot the cd first?

OK, Here's what you need to do. Shut down the computer. When you restart it, as it boots, continue to press and release the F2 key as the computer starts up. When it does, you will get a BIOS setup screen. From there, there will be an option to change boot sequence. Make CD drive first and then C: drive. Save your changes and then reboot. This time, the computer should load your reinstall disk. Let me know how it goes.

I have a dell dimension 3000 desktop. I removed a cd rom drive and replaced it with a audigy sound blaster front panel drive. when I boot my PC it says primary drive not found, press F1 to continue, Press...

Your computer is configured to recognize specific devices in your computer. If you removed the CDROM drive, you need to tell your computer that it's gone, and that you're aware of it. That message is kind of like a "Hey, there's something missing from your computer... did you know about this?"

You should boot your computer up and get into the BIOS. When your computer turns on, you'll see a message in the corner that says something like "Press F2 for BIOS" or something like that. Get into the BIOS menu using this option. When you get into the BIOS, you'll need to find the sub-menu called "IDE Devices" or something referring to IDE drives. You should see two IDE channels, with two possible devices per channel. You should see the entry where your CDROM drive used to be - change this option to "Disabled" and then save your settings and reboot the computer. The message should go away. Good luck!

Attempted to install New 320G hard drive in a Dell Dimension 3000, but the BIOs refused to see the drive at all. Despite double checking jumper settings and using other cables. The OS is Windows XP SP2,...

Check to see which bios version your computer is using. An update is probably necessary in order for the computer to detect the drive correctly.

If that doesn't work most hard drive manufacturers have software that you can install so that the bios will detect the drive correctly.

What's the make and model of the new drive?

Dell Dimension 3000 will not run OS. Cannot get into BIOS

the manufacturer defualt password is 'dell' so you can try that. Otherwise reset the cmos chip by following the instructions in your motherboard manual. The reason it will not load is that when most os's install,. they install the neccesary drivers and software for the hardware present. Moving the harrdrive will not generally work. Your best bet is to back up all the data on your old machine to dvd etc and then format the drive and complete a re-install.

Used Dell Dimension 3000 drive issues

If you mean you need to install windows, you need to set your cdrom drive as first boot device in advanced bios settings or it will try to boot into a non-existent windows. Make sure your hdd is showing as the master drive, save settings and exit bios. Re-boot pc with windows disc in cd drive and hit enter when prompted to boot from cd.
