They currently have 96 in stock and they cost $44.00.

I hope this helps.

We hooked up the cb radio and the meter light lit up.... my buddy tiltted the radio back and it started to smoke, i took the cap off and the smoke was comming from under the echo board, we fixed one...

If there was a direct short to ground.....which it sounds like there was....it would've blown the protecton diode. The protectio diode is located near the power plug on the inside of the radio (component side). It will be black with a white stripe at one end, It looks like a little can/cylinder with wires coming out of each end. Kinda like a resistor.....but smooth.
The problem lies HERE.....
If it did burn the diode, it will not look like that, It will be a crispy little black thing that falls apart when you touch it.
Just look around near the power plug for a burnt component. If you see one...well...thats probably it.
FYI: the diode will be directly between the pos and neg leads in the circuit near the plug.
Also...CHECK THE FUSE!!!!

One more thing. If the radio started smoking when you tilted it....that means that there is something metal rolling around in there loose. Thats the only reason it should've shorted like that.
Good luck!!

I accidentally wired up the alternator incorrectly then started the engine and a smoke came out of the backof it now the alt light stays on have I blown the diode it is a hitachi mounted on yanmar 1gm...

Pretty good bet that you did smoke the diode
and a fair to good bet that the alternator is shot
only way to be sure is take it somewhere - a good home town auto parts store - and have it checked

Smoke from the dash a/c control area

it's electrical. u may have to follow the wires back to see if there are wires exposed. if they are just use some electrical tape. tape them up and that should fix the problem. otherwise it's something more and u may need to re-wire the whole thing for ur a/c.

B;owing fuses, wont power up, just smokes

Hi,

Try checking the reverse protection diode. This diode would normally be connected right after the power connector and would be the biggest diode inside. One way to verify if this is defective and causing the fuse to blow is even with the power switch at the OFF position, the fuse will still blow.

If on the other hand, the reverse protection diode is good and fuse will not blow when power switch is at OFF, then the short/defective component is inside. There would only be two (2) major components that can cause the fuse to blow with the power switch to ON, the final transistor and/or the audio IC.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Wired backwards

Yes Yes Yes. Before anyone tells you different, Yes. The smoke is supposed to happen when you do that. That is a protection diode that fried. It is there for that reason only. In rare cases, more damage can be done, but about 98% of the time it just fries that diode.

You can take it to any cb shop and have it repaired, just tell them the protection diode was fried. They should only charge between $10 and $15 for it. I charge my customers $10.

If you do not have access to a cb shop and are handy with a soldering iron and desoldering iron, I can walk you through this repair. Just let me know. You can post here or email me at rollincbmods@yahoo.com

Problem with 160GB HDD

Hi there! I think it's not possible to replace the diode as these components are machine soldered to the board. If a machine soldering facility is available to you, you could possibly replace the diode (choose the same diode model adjacent to the one which is damaged. All the best to u.
