I assume that the battery you referring is the main battery pack. If I am correct, I am sure that your problem is the battery pack itself. These are usually Lithium Ion battery and they only have a life span of ~3 years. There is no need to replace your BIOS if your PC is working when it is powered by the AC adapter.

Toshiba satellite battery not charging

Check for a BIOS update for your pc. It's not unheard of for this to fix it if there's one available. If not, it may be a bad battery. If you have a Tochiba Tecra or Protege, a battery replacment is covered in the 1st year of the 3 yr warranty.

Laptop works great on AC input, Battery charges and discharges per the indicators but will not power up on DC only. What needs replacing?

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

I appears that I have problems with the battery when I get into windows

short battery life is contributed to these, 1. Old battery 2. Lots of apps running in the background 3. Taking lots of photos 4. Charging the phone when it does not need a full charge 5. Leaving your phone in direct heat or cold 6. Dropping the phone 7. Leaking battery 8. 1 year or more old battery 9. Continuously talking and charging at the same time 10. Ensure to contact your insurance to see if the battery is protected under your plan.

Battery on my acer netbook will not charge. power connection and cable are fine as the computor works while plugged in.

this could also be a problem that can be resolved by updating your bios i agree that it could be a faulty battery but i still would try to update your bios and see if that helps because that would be the fastest possible solution. go to and look for your model of computer and you will be able to download an updated bios you want to look for the one with the most recent date

The computer is reading burned discs as blank when the cd really is not blank & readable on other computers.

Try going to the laptop manufacturer's website and see if there is updated drivers and/or firmware for both the BIOS and the CD drive itself.

Also, be sure that you are putting a CD into a CD or DVD drive, and not a DVD into a CD drive. The former works, the later does not.

I have similar laptop DV9629, same problem

Check your the version of the current BIOS. You may need to update the BIOS, HP has solve battery wont charge problem in BIOS.

  1. Shut down the laptop with the battery in and plugged in.
  2. Remove the battery.
  3. Reboot the machine.
  4. Wait for Vista to come up and show the power icon.
  5. Reinstall the battery.
Your battery could just be dead. There are a finite number of cycles that any rechargeable battery can endure and getting more than a year's worth of charges is simply a blessing. Count on needing to replace it once a year (mine's been going strong for almost 3 years now oddly enuff). That said, the battery could still be fine and your charger could be the issue. Any breaks or pinches in the line? Also, check the HP supprt site for battery recalls. It's possible you have a unit that has been affected by one of the recalls. Get the battery info off your battery first and then look it up online to see if you might qualify for a new free replacement battery
