The fuse may be bad.if u r somewhat handy. you can try and fix yourself . fuse can usually be purchased at a home improvement store. 20 or 15 amp fuse. un plug unit remove top grill usuallly two phillips scews in the grill or 2-3 screws on the top of the microwave frt. next remove front control panel usuallt 1 screw at top of panel . once the control panel has been removed you can look inside that area and see a fuse, its ceramic usually white or grey and sits in a fuse holder. you can test it if u have a meter. should read resistance if good if no reading it is bad. replace it with same volt youtook out. if you rather a servicer doing it, then could cost anywhere from 65.00 to 105.00 to fix in home. if u take it in to get repaired then 85.00-125.00 depending on were u live and who u use. do it yourself for around 2.00-5.00 for fuse.always check power to unit first before you repair . use a extension cord to same outlet and see if that appliance works.hope this helps you.

No power, no clock, no light. Dead

you cant do much about this.. the only thing you can do is check if the power is going to the magnetron unit or not.
but i wouldnt suggest you to experiment with the unit as it can cause short circuits.
you should rather go find a cheap electrician

No power to oven; checked power to outlet and I do have power; looked for reset button but did not find one

If it is completely dead, check the main fuse, which is likely a AGC ceramic type. If dead, you can buy from Electronix: http://www.electronix.com/ and click microwave in the left column. Good luck with it.

We installed a GE Spacemaker Microwave. I put some potatoes in and the microwave was working, suddenly it went off. No light nothing, it just went completely dead. Came back ON after 15 mins,started...

The main fuse may be intermittent, causing complete power failure, the other possibility is a defective door switch not operating properly, or loose plug in the power feed, I suggest a technician to take closer look at the system because this could prove tricky to find the culprit.

Complete Shut-Down

I woulds first suspect a blown internal fuse or a thermal cutout on the magnetron in your case, but a microwave can be dead for many reasons.

If it goes dead for just a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the thermostat to open. When it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power on again.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or fuse holder.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.
