It would appear that your moisture censor is bad.

Service manual for GE DPSR473EW0WW dryer

the timer may be stuck at a certain place as they have points that at times tend to burn out and stick when the timer gets to that point. do the other settings work? some times the moister sensor will not sense dry clothes and keep running? as for ur drum noise that may be due to bad rollers or bad tensioner and belt depending on ur model and hopefully not bad bearings also a possibility

DWSR483EAWW GE Dryer doesn't turn off when set to "Optimum Dry"

Does the timer advance to the end or does it stop advancing in the middle of the cycle?
If the unit does advance to the end on timed but it won't advance on auto, that means your cycling thermostat isn't triggering. First, make sure your vent is cleaned and the best way to do that is just run a cycle without the vent hose connected to the back of the dryer to see if things change. If your dryer still won't dry properly, then the cycling thermostat will need to be replaced because it's not cycling properly.

Try it on the timed cycle. If it doesn't advance, then you have a bad timer and the timer will need to be replaced.

The cycling thermostat is mounted to the front of the blower wheel housing.

Here is the timer if it is found bad.

My dryer is not drying my clothes completely. I have to set it to time dry for at least 120 minutes to get a load of clothes to dry. I can feel that the dry is warm .I usually dry my clothes on optimum dry...

Your dryer has a double set of heating elements
themobilian_2122.jpg
1 side of the coils is probably broken and you are getting half the heat.
This is making the dryer take longer to dry them clothes.

themobilian_2124.jpg
Air restrictions in the dryer and vent can cause the heater control to shut down quickly also.
If you have a bad breaker the power will sometimes work and sometimes not.

If all of these are good you might have a problem with the timer.

Most of the GE timers have leaf switches in the that get a burr on the contacts. The come apart simple enough.

Hey richn14, I have a dryer idnetical to yours and bought it from one of my friends, and the guy that owned it before them was/ is a total idiot ( i know him, unfortunatly) and have had to do quite a bit of wrok to my dryer. What im thinking it is, is a loose connection on the timer, ive dealt with that or the timer itself is bad/going bad. When I was working on my dryer I was amazed at all the electrical connections on the timer, and the connections on the motor, well, blew my mind. If you are going to check this out yourself and need to know how to take any part of the dryer apart let me know and ill post it on here or can email you, either one.

Electric Dryer Shuts Off

During the auto-drying cycle, the moisture sensor could be the problem.

If it also shuts off prematurely during the timed cycle, the operating thermostat could be turning the heaters off before the machine reaches operating temperature. Another possibility is that the operating thermostat does not turn off the heaters at all. When the machine heats up, it gets too hot and the high limit thermostat turns the dryer off.

Yes this is a timer problem. The timer is easy to replace but can cost around $100. You might try a used appliance store and see if they have a used one.
