Question about Dell E172FP 17" LCD Flat Panel Monitor

Dell 17inch flat screen monitor will not remain on, the screen go

My Dell 17inch black flat screen monitor will not remain turned on. I turn it on from the Power button and it displays for a second and then just goes blank. Turning it on and off again just repeats this behaviour, i.e. a second of dipslay and then just black/blank. Do I need a flat screen or is it inexpensive to have it repaired?

If your Dell monitor still under into warranty, better to call Dell technical support and have them replace your monitor coz there is no way you can fix on it.

If the monitor is beyond with the warranty already, better to but a new one than taking it repair that will cost you much.

Thank you.

Dell flat screen monitor does not come on after

Sounds like a capacitor on the power strip inside the monitor is failing.
The cost to repair can run $400.00. A tv repair shop may be able to fix it, but most technicians recommend buying a new monitor.
However, if you are experienced in electronics, you can disassemble the monitor and replace the capacitor. Radio Shack sells them for between $15 to $20.

Dell E173FPc 17" TFT when turned on goes black

Hi Gaz,

First, verify the monitor is functional.
Monitor STFC (Self Test Feature Check)
Turn off the monitor
Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation
Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer
Turn on the monitor
The floating dialog box should appear on screen against a black background.
If the issue appears during the STFC, the monitor is defective. What are the results please?

Your monitor provides a self-test feature that allows you to check whether your monitor is functioning properly. If your monitor and computer are properly connected but the monitor screen remains dark, run the monitor self-test by performing the following steps:
  1. Turn off both your computer and monitor.
  2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self-Test operation, remove both Digital (white connector) and the Analog(blue connector) cables from the back of computer.
  3. Turn on the monitor.
The floating 'Dell Self-test Feature Check' dialog box should appear on-screen on a black background if the monitor cannot sense a video signal and is working correctly. While in self-test mode, the power LED remains green. Also, depending upon the selected input, one of the dialogs shown below will continuously scroll through the screen.
    1. This box also appears during normal system operation if the video cable becomes disconnected or damaged.
    2. Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable, then turn on both your computer and the monitor.
If your monitor screen remains blank after you use the previous procedure, check your video controller and computer system; your monitor is functioning properly.

If your monitor screen remains blank after you use the previous procedure, check your video controller and computer system; your monitor is functioning properly.

Dell - 17" flat screen

This sounds like the back light is gone on the monitir... to check this look very close at the monitor whet the PC has booted, if you see a VERY dim image on screen then it suggests that the back light is gone.

Many monitors hace a 3 year warranty so I would try a warranty claim before throwing it away

Screen goes black after 2 seconds

Simplest solution may be the screen resolution settings are set higher than the monitor's capabilities. Try lowering the screen resolution and refresh rate in the display properties or try booting to safe mode (press F8 when the Windows splash screen first appears) and see if the LCD will display the windows desktop. It that works, check your video drivers and the screen resolution and refresh rate settings.
If the monitor has the problem in safe mode and/or if lowering the screen resolution and refresh rate don't help then I suspect the a problem similar to one some Dell 17inch LCDs have. On the Dells It is usually caused by a defective voltage regulator transistor in the backlight inverter circuit. Troubleshooting that problem should only be attempted if you have experience at repairing electronic circuitry since it will involve testing individual components and soldering.
