Dryer does not work at all on any setting.

The thermal fuse might be blown (just fixed my PYE2300AYW last week - I assume they're similar enough). Easy to check - pull the wires off the terminals of the thermal fuse, put an ohmmeter across the terminals. If no continuity, it's blown and needs to be replaced.
Also replace the high-limit thermostat at the same time, since it wasn't apparently doing it's job (for mine, the 2 came together in a kit, about $20 - fairly standard, so yours very likely uses the same, but you should check it).
You should be able to find a picture showing where the thermal fuse is and what it looks like by googling "PYE2300AY thermal fuse".
And, while you have it open, clean any and all lint out from around/ over/under the hearing coils - that may have contributed to the overheating.
If you DO still have continuity across the thermal fuse, then it's something else, but from what I've read, that's likely the culprit.

Location of Thermal Fuse

The thermal fuse is located near the heating element. The part number for the replacement kit is LA-1053. You can view an illustrated parts break down of your dryer at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and locate item 5 under the "Heater" section. Pay close attention to the instructions in the thermal fuse replacment kit. One thermostat is for a GAS dryer, one is for an ELECTRIC dryer. Read the instructions and make sure you use the correct one. If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Maytag Dryer model number PYE2300AYW will not start.

check your fuses in the dryer their is only one fuse that could shut down the whole dryer like that. Open back panel and get a volt meter and check for continuity on the fuses. HOW? first un plug it then open back then you will see the heating element their are 2 fuses on the heating element take off wires and check those. Then if those are ok look down thier is another fuses its long white with 2 wires comming out of it with a black center that should be your problem check it repair it run it . GOOD LUCK

Where is the thermal fuse located?

In the back of the dryer. Look for the coiled heaters and follow the lead wires back to the fuse.

Pye2300ayw Dryer will not start. I think it is a bad door switch. How can a confirm this?

Change your thermal fuse first. when thermal fuse goes bad either the whole dryer won't run or the heat element won't come on. Check out item # 3344 at www.repairclinic.com/Appliance-Parts?s=t-pye2300ayw-%3d%3d&z=100 If your thermal fuse is bad there will be no continuity through it.

Dryer quit middle of drying

Verify 220 volts to the terminal block where the cord attaches.
Check the door switch for continuity.
Check the thermal fuse on the right hand side of the heating element just below where the heater wires connect.
You may need a flashlight to see this fuse.

It most likely is the thermal fuse.
If so correct any vent blockage or you will blow another fuse.
The fuse comes in a kit including the hi-limit switch.
Replace them both.

Check the terminal block and make sure you're getting 220. If you only get 110, the dryer will run but without heat.
