PC powers up but wont boot

Posted: Wed Dec 19, 2007 2:26 pm Post subject: PC powers up but wont boot Hi,
I left my PC running while i went outside for a few minutes, when I came back it had stopped working, fans working but blank screen.
I turned it off then back on again and it powered up fans all working but wont boot up and no Bleeps.
I havnt changed or upgraded anything and PC has been running fine bar turning itself off occasionally recently.
I have tried another monitor to see if that was the problem but still nothing.
I have been told by friends could be Motherboard or hard drive .
I would appreciate any help or advice on how to find out whats wrong.

Re: PC powers up but wont boot

I would start with a new power box, then a motherboard. then the hard drive.

This sounds like an OS issue. Like some component is corrupted. I would try to boot in to safe mode and see what happens. If it works in safe mode than i would say it is some kinda software or driver issue. Might even be antivirus software. If you cant boot in to safe mode, have you tired to reload windows. If this is not possible because pc wont run long enough in safe mode or allow to start system reinstall i would remove all components like cd/dvd rom. just unplug the power and ide/sata cable. Re-seat Hard Drive cable(power and connection) remove all external devices like usb keyboard and mouse, printer and what ever else you have. I would also try to remove cmos battery for 1 minute just to reset it. Hope this helps.

Graphics card or motherboard problems...

You've run the antivirus. Next, try to run malware & spyware programs. THen, run a good registry cleaner. This will aim the right things with the right things. If you made ANY changes to hardware, software, programs or data, there will be changes in your registry.

Computer wont turn on

taking out the battery resets the settings on the bios for the motherboard.

worked for me on the few computers that wont turn on.

If it starts up, you may need to enter dates etc onto the bios.

System running problem

Most likely your power cord is loose by the sound of it. If not, your power supply may be shorting out.
