Stop c0000218

Which operating system ????
If you've just installed Windows XP on your desktop and you've received the following error "STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure" you're not alone.
This is a known issue with XP that can arise from incompatible hardware being installed with XP or, in the worst-case scenario, from a faulty hard disk.
Luckily, it is fairly simple to figure out if your disk needs to be replaced or if a software fix is enough to solve the problem.

Check if your hardware is compatible with Windows XP.
You can find compatibility information at the official Microsoft marketplace website (see Below).
http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/
Use the recovery system if your hardware is compatible but is still not working. You can access the recovery console by simply putting in your Windows XP CD before booting your computer.
You will be asked whether you want to "Repair or Recover.
" Simply press the "R" key.

Type in your administrator password.
(You must have admin access to use this option.)

Choose to use the "chkdsk" command line, which will allow you to check your disk.
Once in the chkdsk use the "chkdsk /r" command to check your hard disks for errors.
Press "Enter" to start the disk check.

Type in "chkdsk /f". If any errors are found this will allow your computer to attempt a fix of the broken drive.
Restart your computer after the disk fix has been performed, and attempt to run your Windows XP setup again.
You should have no input while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input might further damage your computer and hard drive

Replace your hard disk if the setup fails with the same message. At this point your hard disk is more than likely broken and needs to be replaced.

My computer is saying reboot or select input. i put in the system recovery disk, windows xp gateway recovery disk. then it says hard disk cannot be found! click any button to restart. what do i do?

The hard drive in the computer has stopped working and will need to be replaced, a computer technician or somebody that knows their way around a computer will be needed to make the repairs.

Compaq SR1650NX HARD DRIVE MESSED UP RECOVERY DISK WON'T WORK REPLACED HARD DRIVE CAN'T GET BIOS TO RECONIZE HARD DRIVE SHOWS UP IN BOOT BUT NOT IN MAIN HP SAID TO INSTALL NEW OS HAD OLD 98SE LOADED WORKED...

Are you trying to set up a raid configuration? If not I would reformat using the 98 disk and reinstall. (You may be able to skip installing 98, try installing xp first and it should ask for the disk containing the software (win98) that qualifies for the upgrade.

Sony Vaio VGN-NR498E recovery disk

Hello

Well, the recovery disks won't allow you to go to your present system. The recovery disks are designed to put everything back the way it was when you bought the computer, minus all your applications and data. If it's your data that you need then a reputable repair service like mine can slave your hard drive to another system and recover all your data (not applications), provided the hard drive has not electronically or mechanically malfunctioned. Again, a reputable repair person can tell you the status of the hard drive.

Thanks

Loading xp in my machine wich had vista home premium earlier

If your hard disk crashed then it sounds like the boot partition is corrupted or gone. I'm not sure you can rescue this without some professional software or help for that matter.

Might be just as easy & cheaper to buy a new hard drive & instal from scratch. Hard drive prices have dropped significantly over the last few years & at least you'll get a warranty with the new one!

Hope this helps

Re-Loading Software

Since they installed a generic copy of xp, there are none of the sony installed add-ons present on the computer. go here to view the available downloads for your system provided by sony, you will have to select the "EVERYTHING" tab to see the giga downloads if it does not load there.
Otherwise you will have to contact sony for a recovery disk specific to your system.
