Run scandisk/chkdsk on the computer. Uninstall and reinstall the driver software.

I have a BJC80 printern with a scanner head. My pc is an xp opertins system. It is connect to parallel port but when i try to scan, it sends me back an error message saying there is no communication.

One of two issues may be involved. 1) Make sure you have a bi-directional IEEE-1284 parallel printer cable, 6 feet or less long. 2) Make sure that the parallel port is set to ECP mode (the BIOS is accessed by hitting F1 or F2 during boot on many computer, check your manual.) Try a new cable (just in case the cable has just enough damage to prevent the scanner from getting the full bi-directional communication).

I hope this helps.

(the lack of bi-directional communication only disables the scanner, the printer will still work)

My Canon 8400F worked yesterday and today it is not responding. I am getting an error message after the scanner determines what type of photo is to be scanned. It says: 1)Original may not be set...

First, make certain that the flatbed scanner lid is securely shut.
Second, unplug the power and USB cables from the rear of the scanner.
Third, deposit the Canon 8400F scanner in the nearest garbage receptacle where it belongs.
Hope this helps.

Try an get a USB 2.0 printer cable. Some of the Canon scanners will not communicate quick enough without one.

Canon mp610 scanning problem

The readme says that some USB hubs have an issue.

I was having problems and was connected via a hub. I removed the hub and connected the printer directly to the back of the PC and voila scanning is all good.
