Question about HP D8597A Keyboard
Go to control panel > device manager > mouce and other pointing devices and see if the touchpad is listed there. If it is, there just may be a driver issue here. Right click on the device and uninstall it. Reboot the laptop and let windows re-install the device, it may ask to search for a driver at windows update, allow it and get a fresh driver. This should also work for the keyboard. If it does not, there may be a mechanical reason for the non-function like a bad cable etc.
