Question about ATI RADEON HD 4850,, PCI Express Video Card

1 Answer

After the most recent HP update, my ATI 4850 now has registry issues. It no longer recognizes my second monitor and the PC only allows for basic video settings. Here is what appears when I run a check in the device manager. Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Yoy can find the sections in the registry with regedit from the 'run' command. That takes experienced users to deal with. Alternatively, use the device manager in 'System' and delete the display device. On re-booting it will go through the found hardware wizard and re-load the drivers.

My Acer Aspire E5-571P-568M, after the most recent Windows Update (Windows 10), will no longer detect my second monitor. Everything was fine before the update.

Undo the update or go back to a previous registry.

Updates often create more problems that what they are worth - only time to update is when it is absolutely necessary for something to work; otherwise if all is ok, LEAVE IT ALONE!

Hopefully, you have learned a valuable lesson for future endeavors with your pc.

Radeon HD 4850. I get a blue screen every time I turn my PC on. It says something `atikmdag.sys` and it's counting to 100 and then the computer restarts. This blue screen it only happens after I install...

Blue screens are software related errors. You would need to try to start the PC in protected mode and remove the drivers from the registry and/or the startup. If possible, run the system restore and put it back to a prior date before you tried installing the drivers. It's possible you may have a card that will not work with your system.

Monitor turns off and on for 20 seconds when turned on

All LCD monitors have capacitors in their power supplies that begin to age quickly, usually at the two mark. A pro should be able t fix this for @$55.00

EA Game ''Spore'' - Videocard & Driver Issue

Well, I can solve it but it is somewhat bad news. Basically your video card is not powerful enough. Here are the ATI specs from the EA website;
  • ATI Radeon™ series
  • 9500, 9600, 9800
  • X300, X600, X700, X800, X850
  • X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950
  • 2400, 2600, 2900
  • 3450, 3650, 3850, 3870,
  • 4850

    and here are NVIDIA
  • NVIDIA GeForce series
  • FX 5900, FX 5950
  • 6200, 6500, 6600, 6800,
  • 7200, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
  • 8400, 8500, 8600, 8800
  • 9600, 9800, GTX 260, GTX 280
I would recommend buying a new video card. You can pick up a NVIDIA 8400 thru 8600 for about $30 or $40 from Frys.com or newegg.com sometimes cheaper with rebate.

They are fairly easy to install.

    Good Luck.

Resolution issues with Acer LCD al 2216w

Possibly this will help. I have installed two1680x1050 LCD screens this past year: your 2216W model on a new PC, and a similar model from another maker on my wife's older HP PC.

Mine worked at the native resolution, my wife's did not. Difference: the age of the computer's (actually Windows XP's) native software for monitors. I went to Control Panel, Display, Advanced, and slid the left-hand slider control to view the various resolutions available. On the newer computer, the highest resolution choice was 1680x1050. On the older computer, the choice was not given. The choices stopped somewhere areound 1270 by 1080.

Solution was to download the newer driver from (as I recall) the computer manufacturer's website, using their regular download/update channel. That gave my wife's older computer the necessary top-end resolution. It was not something the monitor manufacturer could have fixed.
