    What computer name, model name, and model number? Suggest System Restore. Usual mode to get to System Restore when Windows will not load, is pressing F10, then choose System Restore out of the list. Depends on what brand of computer we're 'talking' about, as to whether this applies to the one you have.

    Download KNOPPIX or the latest UBUNTU and run either as a live disk. Once booted, you can check on the health of your system's components. If it won't boot from a live disk, you've got hardware issues that you'll have to diagnose. I'd suggest Ubuntu - if nothing else, you can retrieve your files and burn them to disk so that you don't lose data when you (and you probably will) reinstall (ugh!) Windows. While using Ubuntu as a live disk, please check it out - use it some - maybe you'll like it! Any questions, feel free to contact me.

    Have you tried the boot logging feature - you get it by pressing F8 when booting the computer - it can often tell you where the problem is?

How do I recover or repair bootini and bootsect for Windows XP Professional after uninstalling Windows 7 Ultimate?

It's good that you have the recovery cds. Do NOT reformat the hard drive. Restore with the cds so you'll have a clean install . You will need to have any software cds that did not come with the original pc in order for them to rebuild the registry entries. That is the easiest way because there won't be any left over files from Windows 7 after you restore to XP.

I have a sony PCG-6N2L..when I turn on the computer, the logo screen comes up then the windows xp sreen...it doesn't ever bring up my sign on screen it keeps repeating the logo screen and the windows xp...

Switch ON the PC, boot the PC in 'Safe Mode' by continuously tapping F8 button after you switch On.

Let windows boot in Safe Mode and log in to windows.

Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->System Restore

Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and click Next
Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to the previous month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand corner of the Month Calendar and select any date that you see in Bold.

The detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and time on the right hand side box. Select that date.

Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a reboot.

After reboot your problem should be resolved.

I istalled sp3 on my compaq amd 3400 64 bit now it just keeps rebooting. i tryed to unintall in safe mode but can not what must i do to get it running again thanks tom

I've run into that situation myself a couple of times when upgrading Windows for other people. If Windows won't run once you install SP3, you'll need to boot from a Windows XP installation CD (any version) and use the Windows Recovery Console to uninstall SP3. This page from Microsoft explains the process (method 4 on the list). It does work, although it's a tedious process. The Recovery Console is on all versions of XP CDs, so you can use any one.

Cyclic boot and reboot after installing SP2

If you have the Windows XP recovery disk you should boot into the disk and do a repair install of the Windows OS. You can also press 'F8' before or right after the Windows XP splash screen comes up and tell it to either boot into Safe Mode or "Boot with last configuration that worked". If you boot into safe mode, go to control panel and programs and uninstall the sp2 installation. Please comment back if you need further assistance. I will be providing a How-To on how to recover a system using system CDs today.

Good Luck,

After booting process done. Screen goes blank and Keyboard not working only Mouse cursor is dispaly and working on the blank screen in My acer Laptop.

Try booting the system to Safe mode.

To boot to safe mode:

Restart the computer. As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, F8 key on your keyboard. When Windows Options menu appears, scroll to select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.

Select "Last known good configuration" then press Enter.

If that doesn't work reboot again and keep tapping on F8 to Safe Mode and instead of selecting "last known good configuration" select "Repair Your Computer"

Or you can try this:
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";}
  1. Place your Windows XP set up disk in your CD drive.
  2. Turn off your computer and change your BOOT order to boot from CDs first.
  3. Turn your computer back on.
  4. Press any key on your keyboard when it asks you to.
  5. Press enter when you see a blue screen, one of the options should say, "To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.".
  6. Press enter to start the windows set up.
  7. Accept the Licence and Agreement and confirm that the setup is searching for current versions on XP.
  8. Press "R" when the set up has found your current version of XP.
  9. Notice that the Set up is deleting all your windows xp files and replacing them. (This will not cause loss of data)
